So how hard is it to learn this defense?

"It all depends how much time you put into it," McCord said. "You have to put in at least 30 minutes a day until the end of the installs. An install each day, seven days (a week)."

McCord says it's a complex defense, and therefore it helps having an older defense (11 players on the two-deep have three or more years of experience at Miami).

"As the years go by you start to get it," McCord said. "It's really hard to explain, but you just have to put in the time and effort to learn the position."

I wonder if anyone caught this in Gary's interview of Tyriq McCord. I realize it's been talked about ad nauseam, but here he clearly explains just how difficult it is to grasp Golden's/D'Onofrio's defense.
According to Tyriq, it takes years to really get it. This is why our defense hasn't been successful. Our players have to think too much and then react. It's way too complicated.
Many of us here have been calling for our HC and our DC to simplify it. But they won't do it. They are too stubborn and set in their ways.
This is so damn frustrating! You are getting it straight from one our players. Howard, Jimmy and Butch would never run such complicated schemes.
