A huge priority is initiating widespread use of a RELIABLE antibody test. Ortho Clinical Diagnostics, a Rochester based firm, has just announced they are working with the FDA to fast track approval of their TOTAL ANTIBODY TEST which will be available in "automated test kits". Materials are on hand at the lab and kits are being produced .. in anticipation of approvals .. so that "in a few weeks" .. i.e., by mid May .. "millions of tests will be available". Other companies are also working .. and many firms are sharing technical information at the request of the administration .. in order to get the right tests into usage to test as many citizens as possible.
Another development is OYA GEN INC (another Rochester Bio Tech firm) has found that a former cancer drug STOPS Covid 19 from spreading from cell to cell .. and it appears that this might be a viable treatment option for infected patients.
It is early yet .. HOWEVER if we as a nation are able to test a large % of the population and confirm antibody presence, and ALSO develop an improved TREATMENT PROTOCOL to ensure that virtually anybody who IS infected with the virus can be treated, and recover, with minimal or no risk of COVID 19 fatality .. then the prospects for opening more segments of society .. sooner .. are greatly enhanced.
