Top Safety Becoming More and More in Play for Miami

Hearing that a divorce may be coming soon for four-star safety Jaylen Heyward with Georgia. He has been on campus at Miami multiple times throughout the spring/off-season and with depth at safety lacking upon the exit of Kam Kinchens and James Williams, Miami could be taking three safeties in this class.

A blue-chip trio of Heyward, top three prospect Zaquan Patterson and Isaiah Thomas is looking extremely realistic at this point. Heyward has an official at Miami on June 23rd. Do not be surprised to see a flip around that time period.

Futurecast In for Miami

Hearing that Miami is in position to lock in Columbus defensive lineman Daylen Russell. This has been a Louisville/Canes battle, especially since he visited Louisville during the season with teammate and Cardinals commit TJ Capers.

Miami has been hot on Russell's trail since last season where he had a breakout campaign and was considered by many as the best player on that Columbus defense that was loaded with D1 prospects.

He would come to Miami as a three-technique defensive tackle with the pass rush ability to jump out to a 4i DT/DE - similar to a Rueben Bain/Joshua Horton type player.

I would advise fans to omit the rankings/stars for Russell, who has the potential to be one of the better defensive linemen to come out of South Florida in this cycle. A rise to a four-star ranking is not out of the question with a senior campaign that mirrors his 2022 season.

Hearing this is likely to happen as soon as this weekend.

Local DE picks up Miami offer

Told everyone a while back to watch for a pickup in the communication between Miami and four-star DE Elias Rudolph.

Miami coaches were in attendance at the Palm Beach Garden Jamboree yesterday where Rudolph had a standout performance for Deerfield Beach. He had a sack, a couple tackles for loss and a number of hurries.

The former Ohio native finally dropped the offer this morning from Jason Taylor. He recently announced a cut down to five schools that included Ohio State, Penn State, Cincy, Pitt and Michigan.

I don’t see Ohio State or Michigan being realistic options right now, so there is opportunity for Miami to make a move among his top options.

Miami has been in this race since the beginning. Florida State seems to be the leader right now but a strong official visit in the summer will go a long way here.

Getting Isaiah Thomas in the boat was huge for the progress of creating a pipeline at Clearwater Academy International. Miami is also after DT Sean Sevillano.

Miami Makes Top 12 for Key Safety Target

Miami made the cut for four-star and top 20 safety Brandon Jacob, a Florida native. He has been on campus multiple times and has heavy interest in Miami. We spoke to Jacob last month and Florida, Colorado and Maryland were the schools he mentioned as key competitors for his commitment. Miami is expected to receive an official visit from him this summer.

Forecast In For Miami

Placed a forecast in for Miami Central LB Vincent Shavers last night. The OLB has Stanquan Clark type potential and will make the same jump in recruiting this off-season.

This is huge because it keeps the pipeline to the Rockets alive and well. LB Coach Derek Nicholson has been recruiting Shavers since he was at Lousiville and the two have built a strong bond since he was hired.

This will also pay dividends with Zaquan Patterson and CJ Ewald, two of his 7v7 teammates, plus adds another Miami Gardens Ravens product in the class. Miami is building with that group and doing the right things to make sure they are in a good spot with the remainder of that childhood team.

Expect to hear good news soon…
