Downtown Fort Lauderdale where I have lived now for the last 10 years has been killing it the last 3-5 years in development.
We just finished the Dal Mar Hotel, a 5-star, 40+ story luxury hotel which rivals anything in Miami. I go there often with friends and the quality is top shelf, the service is first class, the food is excellent, and it is conveniently located smack dab in the center of Downtown FTL. They're opening a rooftop bar in April which overlooks all of Downtown, and The Terrace Grill Steak and Chop House on the ground floor is fantastic. Off of Federal Highway two blocks north of Broward Blvd. Here's the link:

We also have the Riverside Hotel on Las Olas. It has been remodeled in recent years- my colleague recently got married there and the hotel looks great. Open-ended bar area on the ground floor which overlooks Las Olas, and The Boathouse is a new restaurant in the back of Riverside Hotel on the water overlooking the river. Real nice. Here's the link:

If you're looking for something more cost-efficient, there is a quality Hampton Inn off of Andrews Ave a few blocks north of Broward Blvd, walking distance to Las Olas. I believe this hotel underwent a lot of renovations and is supposed to be significantly better than in years past. Here's the link:

We just built a brand new Fairfield Inn and Suites, and it is rock solid. Located at the corner of Broward Blvd and US-1 across from The Waverly. 1 block from Las Olas Blvd. Next to Starbucks. Here's the link:

One of my favorites is the W Hotel on Fort Lauderdale Beach. Great pool overlooking A1A and the ocean, and on the ground floor is Steak 954, top-10 restaurants in Fort Lauderdale in my opinion. Here's the link:

If you're looking for something a little closer to Hard Rock Stadium, then I suggest looking at the Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood. It underwent a 1.5 BILLION dollar renovation and expansion. Place is amazing. Council Oaks is a steakhouse there- the best steakhouse in Broward County in my opinion, and probably one of the top-10 steakhouses in Florida hands down. Here's the link:

Also, Jet Blue runs a lot of great flights into and out of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport, as well as Southwest.
If you need any tidbits on bars, restaurants, cigars, parking, etc. in the Downtown FTL area then please feel free to send me a PM. Happy to help!
Good luck and enjoy your stay!
