Art Institute is a great museum in Chicago that I have been to numerous times. The museum hires an Equity Company from Colorado and via email fires ALL their volunteer docents many had been there 20+ years. Walking you around, explaining the pieces you are looking at, long term training over 5 years, BECAUSE they are too old, too, white, and supposedly rich although that's not been shown.

This is the new world we live in. I don't like it.

Their answer? Well hire more people of color and instead of a volunteer position pay money of course! If people of color wanted to walk around and discuss works of art all they had to do was VOLUNTEER and DO THE TRAINING. It's not that hard for people to be equal.

It's a VOLUNTARY position so I would LOVE for someone to tell me what precluded OTHER folks from walking in and saying " I'd like to volunteer?" I guess it's racist that old white ladies volunteered now.

It's like affirmative action. An antiquated idea that's been around for decades. An idea put into motion during the integration period when representation for people of color was low in public service. Not any more. Hasn't been that way for years based on racial population percentages to the overall population.
What happened in Chicago is out and outright racist.
