Back surgery next week I'm in hell

2nd time since 2018 herniated discs L-4, L5-S1. In 2018 epidural shots (3) worked to get me out of acute pain. Xmas morning had the kids over cooking them breakfast and all I did was bend at the waist to kiss my granddaughter on her forehead and in that split second I felt it again. Right in back both legs went dead. Had epidural 10 days ago left side better but left side wasn't as bad as right. Right leg is in HELL.! Goes totally numb followed by burning. Sitting is agony standing leg goes dead. Laminectomy with disc excision L5-S1.
Yesterday I was relieved to hear the Surgeon tell me a plan. Today I am nervous. It will pass.....

After next Thursday if my posts are too nice and friendly fear not it will only be the pain meds speaking. I plan on being a prick soon after.

Good luck with your surgery. Hopefully, your surgeon will limit any nerve damage with the surgery. Should there be any damage , the nerves can regenerate. I had the same operation in 2017. Went through rehab that helped some. Would recommend electrical stimulus to the affected area should some numbness remain. Again, best of luck...

Good luck. I really hope it works. The surgeries result have been improving over the recent years now. I have been dealing with 3 ruptured disks for close to two years now.

I've been dealing with many back issues for some time now. My uncle has had 8 back surgeries over the years and one of my wife's friends has now had 4. This is why I choose to simply deal with it but I know the day is coming when I won't have a choice. Keep us updated to how it works out for you and good luck, HJ.

Have had two back surgeries and had the same procedure on L5 S1. Having L3 issues now after picking up a garbage.
can in my office. Had three epidurals. Doing a lil better. I feel you my brother best of luck.

Ice is going to be your best friend now, gentle stretching of hamstrings/ gluteus/ piriformis. Mackenzie protocol works miracle with my patients. Hope the best for you. Anything question you might during PT let me know.

HJ good luck. I had my back surgery in 2012 when I was 42. I had a HANDYMAN SPECIAL house that I bought. I thought I was indestructible. 5 years of carrying into the house 80 lb bags of concrete did it. I was an out patient because I only had a micro discectomy. I feel good today and my bullshit chiropractor client thinks I should have consulted him! Why? They say you need 2 adjustments per week at $75 each. That's $7,800 per year. I had the surgery for $43,000 (I only paid my $10,000 deductible) and I have have zero back issues since 2012. If I did chiropractic those thieves would have beaten me for like $100,000 before I died.

Remember!! Ask for as many OXYS as you can get after surgery. Tell them you are in extreme pain and will sue.

Ice really is the best no doubt. I purchased an ice pack called magic gel Amazon $21 that you wear velcros around waist it is a life saver. Problem is the pain is not so much lower back it is right leg. S1 nerve trapped so right leg is weak and goes in and out from burning to completely numb. It really is agony.

Chiropractic medicine doesn't work for me. Not knocking but the times I have tried it over the years I always thought what is the big deal with this?
