Citing a lack of interest cancelled.
Why a lack of interest according to the Head of Americas Petroleum Institute?
Biden Admin won't support in court drilling
Green groups vowed to create problems drilling tying it up in courts for years
Regulatory hurdles still in place

So keep talking about greedy oil companies but why in the world would they take on risk with these adverse factors in place?
No one would.......

Putin's fault.
There is concern Russia might invade Alaska and Mexico.

The canceled oil leases in Alaska were in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) which is home to hundreds of thousands of migrating polar bears, waterfowl and caribou. The amount of oil produced by ANWR would be relatively insignificant. There was a lack of interest because six major banks, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan Chase, Wells Fargo, Citi, Morgan Stanley and Bank of America all said they would not finance drilling in ANWR. The Gulf of Mexico leases were canceled as a result of delays due to factors including conflicting court rulings that impacted work on these proposed lease sales.

Seems odd the timing but I'm quite sure they will feel greater pressure when oil is at $150 per barrel

No matter the price of oil, destroying a pristine area enjoyed by many for a relatively insignificant amount of oil is not the answer. It's a fact land, air, water and human beings are negatively impacted when we extract, transport and burn fossil fuels. That should be enough to continue moving away from them and focus on renewables. Bloomberg New Energy Finance has estimated that between now and 2030, around 70% of the power generation the world will add will be renewables.

Insignificent? Destruction? All oil flows thru beautiful lands.
Europe has already outlined a plan to slash Russian gas imports by two-thirds by the end of the year and pour money into renewable energy.

I don’t know why folks didn’t take him seriously during his campaign. He said he is going to destroy the fossil fuel industry. He promised that. Then he starts doing it and libs are fine with it. Wonder how they’d they feel if Trump did it? It’s about 4.41 in my region.

Numerous studies have proven the animals are doing just fine in areas where drilling is occuring.

As part of the plan to open Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling, the Interior Dept. will construct as many as four airstrips and major well pads, 175 miles of roads, vertical supports for pipelines, a seawater treatment plant and a barge landing and storage. While strategies can be employed to mitigate or minimize the effects on wildlife, it is often difficult or impossible to reverse course once development occurs. The ANWR offers a variety of outdoor activities with at least 1,200 visitors each year to enjoy to enjoy wildlife viewing and photography, backpacking, camping, rafting, hunting and fishing. ANWR is one of the largest unspoiled and intact ecosystems left on the planet. We are already the world's largest producer of oil. Do you honestly think that scarring this pristine area is necessary? The world is moving away from fossil fuels and it is estimated that between now and 2030, 70% of power generation the world will add will be from renewable energy sources.

Thanks Mike. I can always count on you to bring facts to the table and not baseless posts like our right wing brethren spur every night.

Insignificant? Lol it’s probably one of if not the largest untapped oil fields the is estimated at anywhere from 4-11 billion barrels. And by the way the few thousand that’s Rt thousand people that live there want to drill. Think about that Biden is releasing 1 million barrels a day that’s a lot of days to get to 4-11 billion. And I’m old enough to remember all the talking about the original pipelines would destroy Alaska and the wildlife. Didn’t happen.
face it if your not under 40 your not going to be around when fossil fuel is not the primary energy source for the world

Mike you realize that Alaska was completely this way until we went their and built cities, airports, roads, electricity. You haven't learned 1 thing by this oil / gas situation. The fact remains we NEED fossil fuels in this world for NEARLY everything. You can't get around that fact. Technology for drilling has come a very long way.

Mike,
You wrote a bunch or words but did not refute the core issue, the animals are doing just fine. Possibly better by having so many focus on their health. Man and animals have been living together for thousands of years. The Caribou are not harmed by having an oil well in their sight as they migrate. Yes there are a few roads built. These are not 8 lane interstate highways. Wolves are still a far greater threat to the elk than getting hit by the occasional truck. Is a eliminating a few "pristine unobstructed views" worth a global recession? Is it worth starving babies? Oh and btw windmills and solar panels also obstruct views, require roads and transmission lines etc.
Drill baby drill!

Who wants to visit a wildlife refuge and see drilling rigs popping up for a temporary fix? How many times in our lifetime have we seen these gas price scares? How many pristine areas are left on the planet? Keep drilling rigs out of national parks. Your argument is absurd!

Mike,
Is it possible that the Caribou might prefer to see drilling rigs rather than tourists? I thought it was all about the animals?

And to the other side, you have said go with green energy. Have you ever seen a solar energy farm? No plants, no wildlife, but plenty of roads, buildings and power lines. You can see oil rigs in the Florida Everglades. They are not bothering anything. Probably see some birds perched on the rigs. Compare that to a Florida solar farm. You will notice that a forest was clear cut to place the panels. That means no underbrush or furry little animals in the solar farm. Evil Green Weenies are destroying their habitat. Plus trees remove Carbon Dioxide (global warming creator) from the air and replace it with life giving oxygen.

Opening up ANWR to drilling would be at best, too little too late, and at worst completely pointless, as thdre is still no guarantee that the oil is even there. The claim that the relatively small amount of oil that might potentially exist in ANWR would make a difference in gas prices is idiotic!

Clean and renewable energies not only contribute to mitigating the devastating effects of climate change, but another of their more notable characteristics is that they are inexhaustible. The United Nations has sought to encourage the development of this type of energy and has set the goal of guaranteeing access to electricity for the entire world population by 2030,

United Nations, LOL - gee no corruption in that crowd?
Please answer yes or no to the two below questions.
1) Has the UN PASSED a resolution condemning Russia's invasion of Ukraine?
2) Is the Russian invasion of the Ukraine good for the environment?

Renewable energy sources are already in place and in 2020 accounted for 12% of total Energy Consumption and 20% of electricity generation. Renewables are on the rise and continue to grow by 3-5 percent per year.

Many gas tanks are already being filled up with renewables such as Biodiesel, hydrogen fuel cells and ethanol. More than 98% of U.S. gasoline contains ethanol so the next time you need gas you will be filling the tank with a renewable energy source.! What do you say to that genghis?

Numerous studies show ethanol is bad for the environment. Causes more global warming than regular gasoline. Another fumble for the green weenies!

That goes two ways. Other studies show ethanol reduces pollution as it is non-toxic and biodegradable. Data show that ethanol is a cleaner fuel than gasoline; therefore, it reduces emissions when mixed with gasoline. BTW. Why the derogatory term "green weenies"? You have something against people concerned with protecting our environment? Can't condemn the whole group because there are some extremists. Every group has extremists.

Yea. That’s exactly the same thing you were referring to and to which I replied to.
Im talking about immediate help replacing the lack of oil production. You said 20% blah blah blah. That ain’t fueling my Monster Truck.

The 20% referred to electricity generation and you're fueling your monster Truck with gasoline that contains ethanol, a renewable energy source.
