It's so obvious that we play not to lose -- which results in close games and losses. Look at the mess we made of the end of the first half and the start of the second.
Exhibit A -- 25 seconds to go in the half, up 14, and the ball on the 30. We take a knee, when it is obvious that we can throw. Heck, we even took a timeout prior to the missed FG, with the idea that we would try something.
Exhibit B -- 1st possession of the second half and we go super-conservative on first and second down, before TVD is sacked on 3rd (on an obvious passing down). As a consequence, we lose all momentum.
Exhibit C -- 4th and 7 on Pitt's 40 and we punt.?!? (In case Coach Diaz can't count, it took exactly 3 plays for Pitt to move 30 yards from the 10 to the 45 (past where we punted).
You reap what you sow.
I'll pull for our team all day (even when it doesn't help our long-term situation), but I can't support that.
