The fact that offices were closed in Mississippi & Alabama today for Confederate Memorial Day shows how far behind the times the south still is.
Why would a young black athlete, or an evolved and conscientious white one for that matter, go play football in a state that doesn't respect them as people and celebrates a past time where they and theirs were enslaved? You think they care about you? Once they've used you up, it's on to the next. You think anyone is going to help you find your way or get a job in 10 years if you blow out your knee senior year there?
Miami was the first major football program in the south to integrate. A Cane is a Cane for life. Regardless of color. Miami, the school, the city, the community... it's about diversity.
Put up for your city. Don't let them drag you backwards. Alabama? Clemson? Gainesville? You're just meat to ol' Billy Bob or Nick Satan. It's all about the U. Be strong. I'd beg a coach like Richt to take and guide my kid. I'd TRUST him. I don't understand why anyone would leave with how things are now. You can be home, win championships, get a first class $60k/year private education at a program that GRADUATES its players with REAL degrees, and be mentored by some of the finest coaches and leaders of men ever assembled.
It's a Cane thing, others just don't understand.
