I saw this being discussed in another thread, but it really deserves its own thread. Interested to see what this means to people. It is loaded question but for me Winning Miami culture (meaning Nationally relevant):
- Begins with competition. Players competing against each other daily, and knowing if they don't perform, they can be replaced by the guy behind them.
- This creates mental toughness and strong work ethic. When you are always scratching and clawing for your spot, you either fold and get weeded out, or become/are a tough SOB. If you aren't working, somebody else will, and take your spot creating work ethic.
- Accountability. Starts with coaches being willing to sit guys for at least a few series, if they are either not performing, or making inexcusable mistakes. This leads to players following suit, and expecting the same from each other.
- No rewards for doing what you are expected to do. I don't have a problem with the TO chain (they are relatively rare), but at this point I wouldn't mind seeing it gone. The TD rings are a total joke. Scoring is the name of the game. You shouldn't be rewarded any more than the satisfaction of kicking azz and scoring. This leads to a culture of entitlement (one of Manny's biggest flaws).
I will add that high level recruiting is an irreplaceable ingredient to Miami culture. Players need to have someone "behind" them who is equally talented or similarly talented. For example, we all love James, Tae, and KK at safety as they are VERY talented and going to fight each other for snaps. But they need young cats brought in behind them that are also talented to keep pushing them. That also pushes guys to reach their potential and DEVELOP.
All of these factors create the type of culture we need and have seen at Miami in the past. This is how you get a talented, hardened, focused team of bad mofos that will accept nothing less than greatness.
