For those who weren't around in 75 the situation playing out in Afghanistan is a replay of our withdrawal from (South) Vietnam in 1975. Back then like today the US invested Billions of dollars in building the South Vietnamese regime only to see it fall once US ground troops departed. I don't know the exact cost of the Vietnam fiasco but this Afghani adventure has been estimated at 783 billion dollars.

If Afganistan turns out like Vietnam did economically, they accomplished something. Afganistan is a wasteland of religious demented Muslim zealots that likely will continue to breed terrorist activities then go back to Pakistan that harbors them for part of the year. The beheadings will continue.

Huge difference is the radical religion these animals follow. Get everyone out, and then relentless bombings.

No difference, most don't know the facts about the Vietnam war. In the last days of the war, the North sent everything they had at us and the south, it was called the Tet offensive. The Vietcong got their butts destroyed in that battle, left them devastated, it could have meant a victory for us, could have caused the end of the war. But, some in our government called for the withdrawal of our troops with little preparations (the preparations part sounds very familiar).

tet was 1968, withdrawal really didn't start until 1973 ending in 1975 ?

The final departure was also chaotic with people crowded on the embassy roof fighting to get on a chopper.

Actually Islam is a religion of peace don't let these radicals fool you into thinking they represent the real Islam. FWIW: Back in the early 80s there was a radical or rather perverted version of Christianity going around in the US called Christian Identity. Back in the 80s a few of these guys were pulling bank robberies and assaulting armor trucks. That chapter went down violently but the philosophy is still popular among the fringe right wing movement of today.
