I've seen from a couple sources today that "we didn't want him". I'm going to assume that means Manny and crew didn't pursue him heavily for whatever reason. Maybe they felt they hadn't seen enough out of him at UGA and waited to see other options at DE in the portal. Johnson committed to FSU out of the portal pretty early so maybe Manny thought he could wait for better options. That damn sure doesn't make it okay if we didn't go after him, but that would at least be an explanation.
BUT.. if Johnson wanted to come here and our coaches passed on him in any degree, oh my. You'd have to think Miami would have been a strong place of interest at least considering the success Phillips had here and Roche to a lesser degree. We'd be 8-2 right now with Johnson, easily.
