I lived in St. Pete for three years prior to law school. As a native born Floridian, the west coast of Florida is a great place- the people, culture, cost of living is much more favorable to South Florida. I am beyond excited about becoming a part of the Tampa Bay community.

The 727 will PERMANENTLY become my home in about 8 weeks, and I look forward to meeting all the great Hurricane fans in the 727 and 813...

Many friends on this Board have been supportive and there for me, and I thank you fort that... Thank you ALL, and I can't wait to meet more Canes fans when I get back to St. Pete!

Go Canes!

Prost! (Cheers!)

There is no place like Lauderdale. Born and raised (sistrunk and parkway).

We will miss your economic contributions on Las Olas homie.

A.I.L.I.!!!!

No. I'm leaving a great law firm for a great law firm.

Congrats Varkas... I assume we will read about more gator fans in shutter shades and taking apple pucker shots....That's where those old stories came from correct? I used to laugh like hell in disbelief..

A little more north than you in the 352 Crystal River area. Glad to have another supporter on this coast. And if I am not mistaken, don't you have a birthday coming this month? 27th or something like that. I remember that because mine is tomorrow. The big 46.

No. I'm leaving a great law firm for a great law firm.
Congratulations and good luck.

I left Dade for here in 1991 and its been nice. The fishing isn't as good, there are no "Los Ranchos" restaurants here, the Keys are too far away, and its far from the Canes games. Aside from those its all good.

Welcome back to the Burg, I live in Dtown, watch most my Canes games at Fergs surrounded by FSU fans......last year was brutal lol

Lol @ my brother ^^^^^ if its a home game u can find us both at sun life

Congrats on new job and home. BUT:

Now how does this affect one of the all time great Sunlife traditions ?? The SUPER ADVARKAS Tailgate party with the famous Ice Luge??
Is it just a memory like peeing in the sink, the no blockee, from days past????

Median age of St. Pete residents is close to 40…I travel there pretty regularly as I have family there, and in Clearwater. If I was a young Professional in my early 30's like you are (will be 60 this year) and looking for females as such…personally I don't think I would leave Las Olas for St. Pete…thats just my opinion

Good luck over there!

And you think the drive to Sun Life sucks now......

Always good to have another Cane fan around here! Downtown has so many great bars and restaurants now, you will like it better than before.

But you are going to hate that drive to Tampa. I-275 is under construction in Tampa for the next few years and the Howard Franklin backs up worse than ever!

AJ,

I hope this is a great move for you, my friend. I know you had previously expressed the desire to go back to the 'other' coast, but I thought you had changed your mind.

In any case, I hope to see you at the spring game and of course ALL HOME GAMES this year. Tailgating would take a serious step backward without your leadership.

Your friend, Bill

Hit me up AJ. We can play some golf. I have the hook up at a place called Founders Club in Sarasota. Free golf all the time and one of the top courses in the county. I owe you from all the ice luge shots over the years

Appreciate all of the thanks and support fellas. I view life as a balance between personal and professional decisions, and living in St Pete, an area where many of my friends live (and in Bradenton, Sarasota, Tarpon, Lutz, Brandon, etc.), and where in previously lived for three years, is an awesome feeling. Pinellas and Hillsborough counties are two of the most underrated counties in the country. We have a tremendous amount of cultural, business, and musical opportunities in that area, the people as a whole are great compared to South Florida, and we even get seasonal changes! Lol...

South Florida has been home for 26 out of of 32 years, but I'm glad to rejoin the 727.

That's why I've never criticized athletes and coaches and people in general about moving or leaving programs or going to the pros or whatever- an average fan just doesn't understand what these people ultimately want. Everyone is different, which is why I tend to sympathize with the athlete who leaves early or a coach who moves on elsewhere because many times those types of decisions are as much PERSONAL decisions as they are professional- life moves on, and so too must people. Lol.

Does this mean that I need another tailgate to bring the girls to on Nov 15?

Wish you well.....You're a great, great Canes fan.....and always respect your opinions.......

As for me....I HATE the west coast of Florida......Anything north of Naples doesn't work for me.....Don't like the way the air breathes....the grass grows....and the clouds that pass by......Can't really put a finger on it.....and there are some pretty places over there.....For whatever reason....I'm an Atlantic guy......

Enjoy!

I hope that wasn't a real question!!! Do you think we won't be there????

Hey, my former Miami Lakes Brother....

Congrats on the new job and the move back to old friends. U are absolutely right about PERSONAL reasons for professional decisions to move. It's all about QUALITY OF LIFE and that is highly subjective and personal. Personally, I like Tampa/St Pete area but being from Northeast it's still a tad too southern culturally for me and too many geezers but everyone's got their own criteria. hope you are happy and go canes!
PS: Any truth that Coach D and Coach Coley pulled some strings to get you a new job out of town??? :)

That was 1994- this is 2014. lol... There are more young professionals living in St. Petersburg now than ever. Go to First Friday, the Vinoy Hotel for golf, Winghouse, the new Hooters on 4th Street, Push (night club), Engine No. 9, Fergs, Red Mesa Cantina on a Saturday evening, Rays games, Eckerd College, The Canopy (at Birchwood), Tryst, Jannis Landing, Mastry's, and on and on and on... People aren't exactly playing Bingo in St. Pete these days my man- different era in South Pinellas County. The amount of young professionals who now live in St. Pete and commute to the Tampa area has changed the cultural identity of St. Pete.

By the way, the median age in FLORIDA is about 42 years old- the median age in St. Pete is 40-42, so it's on par with the rest of the State. Also, if you have tens of thousands of SIXTY-YEAR OLDS, then that means you have to have tens of thousands of TWENTY YEAR OLDS to BALANCE out the age to get the median age down to 40-42.

St. Pete has EVOLVED over the last 7-10 years and has become an EXCELLENT place to live- a place which I will once again be proud to call home.

Appreciate it my man- I went to elementary school in Coconut Grove. Was born in Monroe County (Key West), grew up in Dade County (Coral Gables), currently live in Broward County (Downtown Fort Lauderdale), and currently work in Palm Beach County (Boca Raton)... I've seen the best and worst of South Florida over the years. lol. For me, I love the west coast of Florida... The culture is significantly different than in South Florida, and the Tampa Bay area is a great area with great people and Hurricane fans!

Prost! (Cheers!)
