Well thank you for that canam1965. I don't think there is much new there except but it does a great job explaining the complexity of the problem.
I'll take a stab at a few;
1) looking to drop worldwide temps by 1.5 degrees over next X years. There will be unintended consequences if it were able to be done including very harsh Winters etc....
2) Industry by Industry the fossil fuel dilemma differs as he mentioned. Aviation very difficult bio-fuels 3x's as expensive. Steel industry, automotive, all different.
3) The oil and gas companies have already begun investing in Hydrogen technologies, alternative energies like windmills and solar and they are putting together the bulk of the Carbon Capture programs needed for the future. All without mandates that are uniform.

It says that in the "near term," it will spend $2 billion to $3 billion on "renewables and energy solutions." The company gives few details. If it delivers on its plans, it will spend about 10% in the low-carbon area.

Government ALWAYS trails private sector. If anyone thinks these oil and energy companies have failed to recognize the market trends so they CAN CAPITILIZE on them in the future then that person would be very wrong.
