1. James Williams: You do nit move him to LB. he should stay at Hybrid Safety/Robber. Not just because that is position he has always played and but because that is his best position and and provides us depth at safety. You move him to exclusively LB and all of a sudden you have zero depth at safety. Avantae has a bum shoulder and kne wrong hit and he is gone for the year. Who you got to start behind him??? Balom??? Keyshawn Washington?? James Williams stays at safety and solidfies the position with depth. Now that Does not mean he is not used just like he was with Diaz and play alll over the field: rushing from the Inside LB spot, rushing from OLB spot, covering slot, playing freelance robber, etc. But to just put him in a box and make him a LB is mistake.
Also, his tackling skills suck. Has know technique. Tackles high and just tries to throw guys around to get them down. If you want LBs that are sure tacklers, James Williams is not it.
2. Marcus Clarke: Not on depth chart at all????? He was better than Ivey and Couch. And Blades has proven to nit be able to stay healthy. I bet he will not be able to see the field next year either. I can see him retiring from football. And a corner transfer??? Better hope some new blood comes in because right now missing in Ricks (had no shot) and Banks, the pickings right now are slim, especially for a starter opposite Stevenson…….if he even comes back
Also, please do nit expect Graves or Rodgers to play extensively next year as true freshman, corner is one of the hardest positiin to just come out there and master. If you guys bitched about Keanord Taylor nit getting time right away learning a much simpler position at DT, then do nit complain when you do nit see Graves or Rodgers out there much this year..
3. Steed?????? Ok yeah he is nit Ray Lewis. But he was by far our best LB. second in team in tackles. Played very well in second half of season. Will be first time over a full year that he is not injured. Has not declared for draft or transferred (far as I know) and has one more year of eligibility. So why not even in depth chart??? I actually see him ahead of Flagg and starting with Chase Smith (weak side LB) and possibly another transfer.
4. Kelly over Chanz???? This is how we fall into this trap of “Why is coach “X” not playing or starting a true freshman like Kelly when Gary said he was ready From his depth chart. Same set up as Leanord Taylor this past year or GR15 a couple years ago. At end of day, they are true freshman thst need to develop Before they get a lot of playtime or even start. It is the rare freshman that can start immediately from day one as a true freshman.
And Chanz Williams was a 4 star with 5.9 rating just like Kelly and similarly ranked. He also has played pretty good for first year in heavy rotation starter. So why would you expect and better yet hand a starting role to Kelly over Chanz. Makes no sense.
