Gary, Why is there a forum for politics on this website?

I don't get it. I'm here for Canes athletic info. The site is called CaneSport. If people want to debate politics there are enough forums available without The Lounge.
Respect your opinion but the Lounge gives some of us a place to vent and give our opinions. Most of us have no real voice in the world and I believe it is a bit therapeutic to be able to express ourselves here. To each his own I guess.

It’s not unusual for forums to have an off topic section where people can discuss things other than what the main topic of the forum is. This allows people who don’t want to see off topic subjects to not have to see them and allows those who do, the ability to have their own sub forum to avoid talking politics, music, or boxing in the football forum. This makes a lot of sense.

The Lounge is an open Forum. Topics outside of sports generally speaking. More importantly; If it bothers you, why enter?

Do it so where else. You’re intruding on our fun.

No thanks, I'll do it right here in the Lounge. You're intruding on our First Amendment rights. How would we ever learn about each other if we're not allowed to share our opinions and experiences?

Go right ahead. But as I was taught many many years ago, there’s a time and place for everything.

JMac 97, if it wasn't for some occasional testy political talk, frankly, the Lounge would have little or no discussion. Sometimes a different subject arises, but not often.

So is the Lounge supposed to be a forum about furniture? The entire point of the Lounge is to be open ended. I would absolutely like to see more content about things like food, drinks, hot babes, restaraunts and clubs, places to go, general entertainment, music and much more. But everyone is allowed to post just about anything they want. With a few exemptions.

Unfortunataley the political class and main stream media has been allowed to become so big and consuming. Between the election and COVID, things have gotten out of control. But really baffled by what the non usual Lounge Rat's were looking for. Maybe they thought the Lounge was a forum to discuss what kind of end tables Manny Diaz likes?

That is why I try to keep those opinions in The Lounge. I also do my best to give respect to those I disagree with so I'm still not sure what the problem is with talking with my fellow Canes fans about issues that are important to us.

We need a wine thread.

6882 and I rarely agree on anything political. But, he is a very knowledgeable wine merchant. Fun guy. We have had several exchanges on wine-related topics.

As to pairing wine with anchovies, I’d go with very welled chilled crisp white wines from Spain or Italy in the $20 range.

From Spain, look for an Albariño from Galicia on the Northwest coast....fresh, sharp, uncomplicated. It’s acidity balances the salty anchovy taste. Fun.

From Italy, I love Greco Di Tufo from the Campagna region near Mt Vesuvius. Also fresh and clean. Think of lunch on a hot day near the sea. Platters of grilled fish, tomatoes and anchovies on the side for those who love them.

Enjoy!

I usually gravitate towards Rioja, Southern Rhone, and Bourdeauxs.

All good. My comments were focused on anchovy-friendly wines.

There‘s a wide world of wine out there for all tastes and all types of food!

I still like Red, even with seafood. I know White wine is "proper" choice with seafood, but I like the room temp aspect of Red and just prefer it taste wise overall. JMO...

No problem choosing red wine with seafood. My choice of red with seafood would probably be a lighter bodied red like Pinot Noir rather than a big Cab or Syrah. Those latter wines could overwhelm the more delicate seafood flavors.

My biggest hangup with red wines is that they are often served too hot.
“Room temperature” is a myth as red wines are designed to be served at about 58 degrees F. That’s the way they are stored in wineries or in home storage refrigerators. This temperature allows them to stay fresh and refreshing rather than hot and tired.

At bars and restaurants I rarely order a red wine by the glass. Why? I look immediately to see where the wines by the glass are stored. 90% of the time they are on the counter behind the bar under the lights with their corks placed back in the bottle after opening. Probably 75 degrees F under the lights.

But, if the bar keeps its open red wines in a separate wine refrigerator, now you’re talking. That’s a sure sign that the bar/restaurant knows what it’s doing. Check it out during your next visit to a bar or restaurant!
