So....I think as a result of the Shapiro nonsense and the entire NCAA mess.....AG had his hands tied from the get go. Last year was his first year without dealing with the issue......he recruited DECENTLY and brought in a good crop of guys. Now....going into - what truly is HIS SECOND YEAR after starting a freshman QB last year (took balls actually) I think we will see improvements all across the board this year.
Offense - Kaaya has already proven he can play the position.....we have great skill guys coming back.....Coley should have a chip on his shoulder after his play last year. I think the RB position will be fine by committee, however, I do think one will eventually emerge and stand out.......could be Yearby.....could be Walton. I personally would like to see Walton and Yearby get a bulk of the carries with Gus coming in and adding a different element....short yardage back/bruiser, etc. I don't think Grey will be a factor this year. The O-Line is young.....Kehoe will have his work cut out for him.....with that said.....WE HAVE SIZE...we have some big bodies on the O-Line.....in my opinion that's 75% of the equation.....that's a C+ from the start.....with hard work that could easily be pushed to a B which equals a GOOD group....not great but good. I will take that considering the lack of starts some of them may have.
Defense - #15th ranked last year.....however......ECushing had an interesting take on this with his post
"Real talk about our #15 defense". So....as an AG supporter I think there are some merits to his post to say perhaps - the numbers are a little skewed......so lets just say our defense WAS AT LEAST.....
#30 best in the nation.....that's still WAY better then where they were ranked 3 years ago. We have guys who have now been in the system a full four years....Howard & Bush for example.....we have a 5* guy in Thomas who SHOULD have a coming out party this year......we have a guy named CORN ELDER who in my opinion is our BEST DB at this time and gained valuable experience last year. We have a linebacker named GRACE.....A MIAMI BOY who can run like a deer....a true playmaker. We have a prototypical LB in size named KIRBY who I actually think will play lights out this year for a chance at a big payday come next April.....we had true freshman named OWENS at LB last year who played a ton of reps and was pretty decent if you ask me.
My point is that their is HOPE for continued improvement with this defense.....it cant be any worse then last year whether were #15th or #30th.....I'm excited to see how much of an impact a guy like Melvn brings to the table....an NFL guy.
Backs are against the wall.....the coaches know.....win or get lost......the players know this as well. I truly feel they respect and love their coaches.....I feel they WILL truly play for them this year.
60 days folks......we will be ten days into fall camp......Dolphins will play their first pre-season game.....ITS FOOTBALL SEASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
