Felling great now. Wicked sore throat ,Cold symptoms and mild sweats for 4 days .Wifey a bit more sick with it with higher fevers and sweats but she is fine now. I had 3 shots of Moderna .Wifey only 2 of Pfizer. Don't know if that is why she got sicker.
If Omicron can help us to herd immunity it could be a godsend .I would not let anyone panic you about this variant. It is likely that the more numerous mutations of the spike protein make it less able to bind ACE2 receptor to get into lung taste and smell cells . But hopefully antibodies directed against other parts of the virus will protect us from future Covid infections. Fingers crossed.

You just panicked me as I also had 3 shots of Moderna and thought I would be better protected. Seems the vaccines are ineffective against Omicron other than making the cases less severe or maybe Omicron is just less severe to begin with. Omicron cases are surging in San Antonio, Tx. where I now live. The word now is that a fourth shot will be necessary in the Fall.

I had covid December 20. I say covid because no one truly knows the variant. Dry scratchy throat like I screamed at a football game for 60 minutes. It didn't hurt. Pressure in sinuses, headaches, 1st day fever chills, 2nd night no fever but sweated puddles, tired / fatigue and on day 5 lost taste and smell which has only returned partially.

Still get tired but I also laid in bed for 10 days.

Loss of taste and smell sounds awful. Can you update your symptoms as you recover?

Thanks. Hoping for your full and rapid recovery.

My 82 year old mom tested positive this Tuesday. It drained her energy and she was very congested. She’s doing better now, she’s extremely active plays pickle ball five days a week, and is the healthiest eater I know. Those two factors are probably helping her now.

I'm good. My 10 days in house ended December 30th. Taste coming back slowly. It's very weird but when you can't taste food becomes so unimportant.

We have a nasty viral infection going around out here in Utah. Many of the same symptoms you guys are having but my family all has it and we all tested negative for Covid, Flu A and B, and RSV. Lots of green gunk for nearly 2 weeks for me along with the sore throat and headaches.

PCR test or rapid antigen? Yes I do agree with lots of bugs out there .

2 of us had the PCR and 2 of us had the rapid antigen. Our daughter has not gotten sick. She tested to be sure and came back negative but not sure which test she had. I went to the Instacare out here and most in the waiting area had similar symptoms.

Only PCR will be accurate for these strains. Doesn't matter either way it's rest, fluids and stay in 8-10 days. Anything worse or doesn't go away go to doctor.

Understood just telling you which tests we had. Unfortunately for me we had 8 inches of snow last week that I had to shovel while sick. Lots of driveway out front and big patio and full RV pad out back. I was the stay at home parent for over 20 years so I'm used to not resting when sick.

Thanks cortez. Can't complain about the snow because as we've talked about before, we need all we can get here due to the drought. I see you guys have been hammered lately. First time I've ever used our snowblower and 2 of our neighbors were out and commented that I must be sick as they know that I prefer to shovel it by hand no matter how deep it is. I'll be 60 in March and I still consider it to be a great winter workout. Lol

Yes, we’ve had 15” of rain in Napa in the last 30 days. So welcome after 2 years of severe drought. With the rain here comes incredible snowfalls in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The desperate for business ski resorts hve been almost overwhelmed with snow.

‘Glad to see it snowing in Utah and Colorado. The fire risk in the super dry years is hard to take.

Watch out for your heart/health. When snows are high, the life insurance companies fear two risks: a) the brave, older guy who gets on his ladder and roof to clear off the snow. He slips off.
b) the heavy, heaving work of shoveling snow can challenge your ticker. Take it slow.

FYI, I was sad to see the Utes lose in the Rose Bowl. Phenomenal game, however. So fun.

Irrespective of what the variant of the moment is, the purpose of the vaccines is to prevent people who get COVID from being hospitalized and/or dying. They are incredibly effective in this regard when compared to people who are not vaccinated. I do agree that Omicron is milder than Delta, but that doesn't mean unvaccinated people who have pre-existing conditions can't get sick and die from it.

Thanks for the concern about the heart but I do all the heavy work around the house including hoeing the garden by hand. I work out on a regular basis and still train for and race motocross. I'm not some guy that works in an office and comes home and does those things and I do take breaks along the way. I don't shovel the snow from the roof though as the roofs are a lot steeper and higher up than the ones I used to work on in S Fla. ;) Yes, I had a lot of disappointed Ute fan friends after the game but most were thrilled get to get there for the first time and by how well they played against Ohio St.

I just turned 60 December 26th. Last year I had just herniated 3 discs in lumbar bending down to kiss granddaughter and went on to have to spine surgeries February then a 6.5 hour fusion in April.
This birthday I was in bed with Covid.
This getting older is so much fun.........................LOL

Yes, I was visiting NYC 3 weeks ago and had scheduled a lunch with a work-related friend I hadn’t seen in 18 years. He emailed me the day before our lunch to cancel.

While playing with his 2 year old grandson, he caught his foot on the carpet, fell, hit his head and wrenched his knee. He spent 7 hours in the ER receiving 7 stitches on his head, a CT scan (negative) and referral to an orthopedist for his knee. Turns out he tore his quadriceps tendon requiring near immediate surgery and 3 months rehab.

Never did see him, LOL.

Belated Happy Birthday, HJ. I remember your thread about your back and can only hope it's feeling better now. I'm not far behind you as I've got issues in my neck as well as my lower back thanks to 15 years of roofing, racing motocross for 35 years and from just an active life in general. This is why I do all I can while I'm still able. I joke to my wife that although I've been a workhorse all my life, the glue factory is coming for me one day.

Ouch, that's tough. One bad part about getting older is that you finally start to get wisdom and figure things out in life and then your body goes and betrays you before you can take advantage of that wisdom. Not the end of the book, simply time for new chapters. Hope that your friend has a full recovery and you get the chance to see him again.

Who cares? Only 35% of people got the booster and only the board idiots will get the fourth shot to be recommended soon.

Thanks brother. They say if you take 100 men over age of 50 that 1/2 will have herniated discs. Of those 90% won't know it or have any major symptoms and will heal themselves. The other 10% will need surgery. I messed mine up working out in 2018 had all the epidural shots and was good until I bent at the waist to kiss 1 year old grandaughter and then I knew in 1 second I was screwed.

Back is healing, it's tight and rigid. I have no discs in 2 levels so it will just be fused solid bone. My problem is my front thighs and left hand. When I woke up left arm was paralyzed for 2 full days probably due to positioning on the table for so many hours. My thighs burn and vibrate / tingle and they don't know why. I have had RFA puls, and 3 steroid injections in my Lateral Femoral Cutaneous nerves but nothing helped. This month I'm getting EMG Nerve Conduction study done.

My personal theory is the Moderna vaccine. There are documented periferal neuropathy adverse reactions on the reporting site and I think it contributed to this. Think about it. I had surgery February 11 was feeling real good, got vaccinated early March and 2nd dose March 29th. I had no way of knowing disc would blow up again and I would end up in surgery for 6.5 hours and 5 days in hospital. I think my immune system was just OVERLOADED. It bothers me to no end but I'm not lying around. We already lost too many days of our lives these past 2 years. F it.

With regard to wisdom, 100%. I think God set it up that way for His own amusement, lol. Sadly, wisdom only comes with time. You accrue it over the course of years, but you never get it all overnight.

Good luck going forward, HJ. Back pain can be miserable at times. You may be right about the vaccine. My cousin's daughter is the one that became paralyzed from the belly button down for over 2 months after her vaccine and it was confirmed that it came from the shot. I didn't get mine but still encourage those that want one to go get it.
