A team of UM professors may have found the "cure" for HIV/AIDS. They've developed a vaccine which has been nearly 100% effective at preventing transmission of the virus from an infected to non infected host. Such an enormous accomplishment for the U, and it's quite possible that these guys go down in history like Jonas Salk etc. these are the kinds of breakthroughs Shalala envisioned when she made it a mission to pump billions of dollars into academics at the school. This research will either be the cure or lead to the cure being found by others it seems. Guys who are truly interested in academics really are foolish if they look many other places aside from here when being recruited.

We have so much to be proud of at The U. This is another step to the World Class Research University that Donna has always envisioned. Congratulations to all involved and to every donor who has trusted our administrative teams with their contributions.
It's all about The U!!

Key words "may have". Hold your breath and your horses, not any researchers first rodeo at countless teaching institutions trying to figure what makes this monster tick.

Hope something pans out, will not be the end-all in probability but whatever they have will help us solve the puzzle.

I'm not a huge vaccine guy, however I do believe that cures/preventive medicines (when properly cultivated and vetted) are needed. This is a cure for bubonic plague big, for our society!

Another key, they said it would be around 10 years before any application of the 'cure' could be used on humans.

That is wonderful. Congrats to the team of scientist. However, they (not UM) will just develop a new disease in a laboratory and release it on the public.

The method for not transmitting aids has been around for a long time really. It's not rocket science but mere common sense!

Not minimizing what may have occurred and it has great implications for the African nations especially and the rest of the world but the common sense method still works and has for a long time!
