Moderna or pfizer? Tell us about it. VA Hospital scheduled me for this Tuesday March 2 for 1st dose. VA is using Moderna I think exclusively.

I got vaccinated at VA in Bedford Mass. I had been out of the Navy almost 50 years, I showed up ,enrolled, and got vaccinated in. an hour. People were. laughing saying-"where the fck have you been for 50 years?" I can't say enough about how friendly and helpful the staff was. I had never thought about using the VA.I am now going back for a hearing evaluation.
I received Pfizer X 2 and had no side effects other than a sore arm .I wish my wife could use the VA.
My son and his GF received Moderna and got mildly sick.
Hope this helps. Go VA!

NO Shorecane I’ve been out since 85 so 40+ years. I had hearing loss paid $7000 for hearing aids and said hell with this I’m going to get my VA benefits because I lost my hearing in the Navy. I was then rejected because I make too much money. I appealed thru Senator Rubios office and they scheduled me for VA hearing test and to make long story short approved me for service related hearing loss but no disability because both ears combined must be 50% loss. I’m just barely above that . One being worse then they other. Fast forward to about 3 weeks ago I get a call from a lady tells me I’m approved for full medical . I nearly hung up told her I’m not buying anything. She said sir this is the VA do you want to schedule to see a primary care doctor. I said I’ll wait for a letter in the mail. Which I received 10 days ago. Trump really improved the VA especially the appeal process which these guys on here don’t understand.

From what I've seen and experienced The Moderna on 1st shot causes localized inj. site pain at about 8-12 hrs post inj +- low grade fever (S/S are improved with anti inflam (naproxen/Aleve)) this resolves w/i the 24 hrs post inject. The 2nd Vaccination has less inj. site pain but a higher fever <102 . S/S show up like before 8-12 hrs post injection and lasts aprox 6-12hrs (also improved with nsids)

pfizer : 1st inj. About the same timing of S/s as moderna, but less sever and usually just inj site pain. 2nd injection if there is any S/S it's been localized inj site pain , though even milder that the 1st and with less time of duration.

JnJ : to be determined , but I expect single dose, milder Signs/Symptoms. All 3 will be very effective as they have very high % , just the JnJ is lightly below the prior 2

I read that the moderna is 100 micro grams vs 30 for pfizer so dosing is 3x's the size. Buddy of mine got Moderna at Memorial Hollywood told me his arm was sore as all hell. He did not have other side effects. He has yet to get shot 2. I do know people who have received pfizer and got sick 2-3 days and others who had nearly zero side effects.

Moderna. More arm pain than from other vaccines. After 1st no real complaints. Second one, got a little tired. Closed my eyes for about an hour on the couch. Felt fine since. 2nd dose was about 3-4 weeks ago.

Great question HJCane ! I don't have the vaccine(s) manufactures drug info sheet handy, but the Big thing here is How by using mrna as a means to Pack tons of antigenic info(like a backpack filled to the brim), and binding it to a lipid ( not achieved before ) which has had it's charge changed ( normally repels the cell aquas nature due to charge) Now we can deliver a guided "shot" to where they want it to go within the cell. Truly a wonderful breakthrough. As to the Question The body's immune system has a convention to React faster and more aggressively toward Larger partials, so the Larger Moderna Molecule will elicit a stronger response within a healthy immune system. Now on the other hand it ALSO , by the nature of it's size, confers longer more robust immunity. The thing is Both the pfizer and Moderna Vac's Have Wonder %'s , so as per coverage you can't really go wrong, so in my humble opinion a healthy person regardless of age who wants max coverage Moderna is Highest most efficient , now if you are frail have a significant past med history The Pfizer or even JnJ ,when it comes out, offer Excellent coverage (its like 1A- 1B-1C) and less more attenuated S/S, and really when are are so High in % and great there is no need to risk anything for a smiggen more of coverage/duration. Hope I was legible I'm under a mutiny from an office that wants to go home LOL

Parents received Moderna as Dad is a Vietnam Navy veteran HJ. 2nd dose has messed him up but he is better today finally after 6 days of symptoms he never had before receiving any of the shots. Time will tell as he was totally against any vaccine shot not knowing what side effects may come of it.

Glad he’s doing better.

For me and I'm sure most people, sore arm was infinitesimally small price to pay for getting vaccinated.Brand new supporter of VA.

Since this reads like you know what your talking about, what is the potential down the road for the MRNA technology to be used against certain genetic disorders and certain cancers?

Have received both Moderna vaccines.

#1. no issue, no side effects

#2 sore arm that night, uncomfortable. 24 hours later, some fatigue, very slight chills. Advil helped. 48 hours later, all good.

Same thing they said about every other vaccine

As you should be you know what solid hearing aids cost? You could buy a car

FYI....I have read some research that people who have had Covid might do better with one rather than two doses of the vaccine. I think the notion is that you have leftover antibodies from the infection. One dose might give you enough added protection. Two doses could be a bit much....more difficult side effects for uncertain additional protection.

Sounds plausible

Urban Awesome question. The truth is I would have to say its too early to say, BUT mrna allows you to target and when you add in nano advances along with gene therapy advances, it's like now you have all the tools needed and a viable way to cut and repair dna. It's like an open door that will lead us up a level. My wife is heavy into it and her inner nerd has been in Valhalla LOL

I’ve had both shots ( Moderna) At the VA Med Center in Jacksonville .The first in mid Jan took all of 25 minutes total and that included a mandatory 15 minute recovery time before you are allowed to leave- never got out of my vehicle and no arm pain or side effect whatsoever - my second one was Feb 9!
That one took almost 4 hours because of rain storm with lightning and thunder - finally had to leave my vehicle and be escorted inside . Then they ran out of 2nd shots so had to wait until more could be brought in from their pharmacy - again no arm pain but a side effect of a craving for a cheeseburger and fries 😳

Pfizer. Got both shots. No issues for me. Many males felt body aches and fatigue starting about 24 hours after the 2nd shot for about 24 hours

I just came back from the Bedford Ma. VA .I received a very comprehensive hearing test and was fitted for two high tech state of the art hearing aids which I'm getting at no cost. I made no attempt to claim this was service related, although I did have some exposure to jet engines.
I can't say enough positive things about the service at my VA. You are treated like you're at a five star hotel. I hope this is the rule not the exception.
Anybody who is eligible and has not enrolled, should do so IMHO.

Unfortunately for my wife and how serious her condition was, they are recommending two doses for her. She gets her first one today. She does have antibodies and will also be donating plasma but has to wait until 90 days from the date that she received plasma from a donor for her treatment to be able to do so.

Thanks cortez. We are very blessed that she's home. She is a long termer and will be on oxygen at least through the end of March, after getting released on Dec 11, but like I said, she is at least at home and continues to improve.

Thanks and God bless, NO.SHORECANE. She is doing well and mostly just uses the oxygen overnight for the most part now. What I ask of most people is to simply pray for those that are in a hospital fighting this alone and also to their family members that must rely on others for updates on their loved ones. Not being able to be there with her to hold her hand and look her in the eyes was the hardest part for me.

Well you are IN the system. When did you serve? If you served during certain times it's automatic.

My hearing test at the VA was the most comprehensive I ever had. The lady was fantastic. When they say those words and cover their mouth I knew it was all over! LOL

Predictably not true.

Started under Obama doesn’t mean VA wasn’t improved by Trump but good effort. Now do the immigration cages .....

My wife has family over there. From what I hear it’s a pretty small community. Her uncle use to run the fish trade at the port for decades. Tom betasini, super cool guy. You know him? Didn’t realize this but I guess that area is one of the top areas in the country for bringing in sea food.

The new and improved VA policy was an Obama initiative in response to the problems the VA was having at the time. Trump expanded the policy to allow more private clinics to see vets, but as the AP article states, the wait times to get private appointments for vets were longer than at VA hospitals (which I can personally confirm), so at the end of the day Trump’s impact on the VA isn’t quite what some are claiming.

I served as a US Navy Medical Officer/Flight Surgeon from 1969-1972. I was supposed to go to Nam, and then they didn't send me for some reason.

It sounds like you are describing New Bedford, an old fishing port, as opposed to Bedford which is a town west of Boston. New Bedford has fallen on hard times like Gloucester, where I live. Fishing industry is over.

Ok but the fact you served during Nam means you are an automatic enrolled. I was after Nam 79-85
