This was a case against Philadelphia and for Catholic Foster Care and Adoption (as I understand it) Congress shall pass no law infringing on the religious freedoms is what they hung their hats on. Basically in order to allow adoptions etc. Philadelphia was asking or requiring these Catholic agencies to go against their religious beliefs. Supreme Court said no can do.
