Nick Saban did not go to Bama without being the top paid HC....Lincoln Riley and Brain Kelly and Jimbo Fisher and Jim Harbaugh (originally) all moved for massive $$. Yes, facilities and overall commitment mattered but HC salary was the primary driver.
If that is true, I would offer Mario 8 years and $80m and make him say no. $10m is a fu$k you college football world threshold number and Miami can get away with it politically in the future as it is a private school. That's a contract until he is 60 and also allows Miami to give him the proper runway to get this where it needs to go without outside noise. It is slightly higher than Saban, Lincoln, Kelly, etc. Raise $30m from boosters to pay the excess above the $6m they probably wanted to pay heading into the process after the 2-4 start. Use the incremental $25-$30m a year they have committed from UHealth to make all of the other enhancements (assistant coach salaries, more staff, facility additions/improvements/etc.)
It all pays for itself and Miami can stick double middle fingers up.
