There was a lot of talk about hiring an AD by the "end of the week" i.e., end of today. Some people went as far as to say AD by Wednesday. Obviously, the Nunez fiasco prevented that Wednesday timeline people predicted.
Bottom line is we can't hire a new HC until we fire the current HC, and as @gferman has stated, we can't fire the current HC until we hire a new AD.
So this whole potential Mario hiring timeline seems to me to be pushed into Monday-Wednesday. I have a hard time believing Oregon plays tonight, and then BANG, all of a sudden the Mario deal is done. Conversely, it doesn't seem like we'll even have a new AD until Monday-Tuesday, and Manny will be out all weekend recruiting with the expectation as remaining as HC. We are also looking like shit with early signing day and this recruiting class, but I suppose that can significantly change overnight.
