Judging historical figures

Curious everyone's thoughts on judging historical figures by modern day standards. It would seem if that's the case we need to burn all of history....and eventually we will be given the same treatment. I saw where demonstrators tore down a George Washington statue. Yes, he owned slaves. Evil practice but society inches forward at a slow pace. If it were not for men like George Washington there would still be slavery in the world today. He helped plant the seed that broke the chains of slavery.

IMO, it's disgusting and gotten totally out of hand. You can't change history by destroying historical statues and monuments. At the least, they should be moved to museums rather than torn down and destroyed.
