AD process lasts another 10 days. If they go with someone who is connected and aware of the situation, he will come with a plan about the best coach for Miami. That will be based on whether or not he has the interest in dealing with intense heat for the next 9 months and/or if he has a head coach or a few coaches in mind that he thinks would create momentum and a splash. In the meantime, buyouts are coming down by waiting a bit of time, and for someone like Mario, he probably is playing the Pac 12 title game next weekend so he would be extremely unlikely to do anything until the following week, ie the week of Dec. 6. And then there is one more scenario, which is that they prep for a move after the bowl games, with a handshake ahead of time, and save another $3m since there is not much you can do ahead of early signing day. So net/net, they need to wait for an AD, they save money basically every week they wait, and there is not a massive benefit in going earlier other than the stressed fan base.
