Massive Infrastructure Failure

Causes all of Caracas, a city of 3.3 million, to lose all electric for hours. How's that socialism working?

But why? All they have to do is re-allocate the wealth? Oh, there is no wealth, no tax base because the government gave everything away below the cost to produce them and 90% of the former capitalist business owners / producers now live in Doral after having been chased out of the country.

Lol....our electric grid is likely in as bad of shape and desperately needs upgrading.

True but the thing generating profits is the transmission side not the generating side of electric power. Companies are investing heavily in transmission upgrades. National security issue is Transient Electromagnetic Distrubance, which just one nuke high in atmosphere could shut this country down totally. Experts tried to talk to Obama he wouldn’t even meet with them. Their happyTrump is listening and say we could be protected for about 2 billion

Our biggest problem is the The transformers made in Korea. They are huge and we have about 200 of them here. They can only make about 20 a year if that. If they are destroyed we are screwed for about a decade. All of them must be placed inside an inclosure.

That used to be accurate ;)

Infrastructure has been upgraded all across the country with proper shielding (at least to the major plants).

At GridEx IV held November 2017 North American grid operators game for cyber & physical calamities. Congress renewed funding to evaluate the threat. The commissions top officials warned lawmakers that EMP attack from rogue nation could inflict devastating damage to the U.S. Jersey utilities said it would cost billions to shield. Adding to problem old nuke plants moving I&C off analog . I spent 46 years operating power plants

Was out in NM this week discussing this very topic with some CT experts and they were talking about it. Not my field but these are guys in the know.

The new money is in solar. Every house you can turn into a mini power plant the better for profit.

They are still out here battling over who is going to pay to take down the Nuke plant at San Oferie. I think it will cost billions by the time they are done.

Solar is not what’s killing nukes, wind power is. Back in 90’s the Goverment subsidized wind power to spur building of windmills. They have never removed the subsidy, so at night when there is no load on system and prices drop wind can live off subsidies. Nukes are base loaded can’t go up and down with demand so at night they are losing money. The problem is all these people yell shut them down but the one thing you don’t have in a heat wave is wind. Fracking has also lowed NG prices which closed most coal burners and impacting nukes.

I am sorry, I was not implying that solar was killing Nuke power. I thought they were just shutting the plants down for safety concerns.

I was just saying that out here in Cali solar has become quite the moneymaker.

Nothing to apologize about I was just expanding on situation.

Lol. Yeah, everybody will have a windmill in their front yard soon. The very basis of that kind of thought is asinine.
