I know this is off topic. I have posted a lot about the Canes and recruiting and schemes, etc..So please don't blast this post as "This is a Cane site, who cares!" Just wanted to know if anyone else had heard the rumors that Rafa Nadal was using performance enhancing drugs, like Alex Rodriguez. The rumor is HGH. Has anyone else heard this? And if so, where? Articles? Thanks in advance.

That'd be nuts. Where did you hear that yourself?

That'd be nuts? It's 2014. I'd probably be less surprised if these guys weren't on some sort of PEDs. Not specifically Nadal, but look at these guys these days. PEDs are rampant in sports.

Doubt any truth to those rumors... I did know a pro for a while who told me Agassi used to do it. I think Ndal is just a freak athlete. Those rumors at based on the fact Nadal complains about testing, but he complains about everything, the media obligations, the grueling schedule, the grouping of tournaments on clay, and so on, and so on.. I think he's funny, he's flipped off the media before, lol. Nadal is a workout freak and people can't believe the things he does, tennis is also a sport like figure skating where people pick their little favorites and get emotional about it. I don't think there is a "Russian judge" in this case, just a genuinely hard working extraordinary athlete.

I found it on Tennis Now, ESPN the Magazine, The Daily Beast, The

Bleacher Report and Sports Illustrated awhile ago.

Former tennis player, and not only do I think that Nadal has at used PED's at one time or another, but SEVERAL friends of mine who played collegiate tennis at a higher level and who had a more successful career in Junior Tennis (USTA, etc.) believe that Nadal has been hitting the juice in some shape or form. Testing in Tennis is a FRACTION of the testing which is done in MLB, the NBA, and the NFL... It will be interesting to see how Tennis addresses unfair advantages due to performance enhancing drugs. I can't say with any certainty whether Nadal has in fact used performance enhancing drugs, but the conversation and speculation about him and PED's has been going on for quite some time now...

I think there should be full contact tennis. You should be able to reach over the net and hit the other player with your raquet if he gets to close to the net...

The pro I knew, who actually played on tour, told me use of PED's was rampant even during the last generation of players, pre Fed and Nadal...this, however, doesn't mean Nadal is using. The rumors on Nadal seem distinctly different than the rumors on Armstrong, for instance, before he got caught, or Arod for that matter. I played all three sports, cycling, baseball, and tennis...and follow them a bit, and the stories are different. Armstrongs story was just impossible, and everyone on the tour knew it almost from day one, not to mention everyone else on tour was doing it as well, he was just doing it better. After surviving cancer, the drugs that gave him back his life and the doctors who helped him also gave him the insight and the knowledge he needed to cheat better than the rest. Arod was the same, the rumors of him taking HGH go all the way back to his days at Westminster, after he transferred from Colombus where people say he never would have started, back then Westminster had a rep for giving their athletes both HGH and testosterone. Maybe Varkas is right, and tennis will be the next sport to be proven completely dirty. At this point though, Nadal's story sounds more to me like Ken Griffey Jr's, a guy who was a far superior athlete than McGuire, Arod, and Bonds, but spent significant time battling injuries and had a shorter career than all of them. Nadal's success seems to be more based on the fact he converted early on to being a lefty and the fact he was a clay court specialist, and yes, he is a workout freak, but he never wavered from his clay game until relatively late, and wouldn't have the records he has without all his early wins on clay. I'm also betting he gives out soon due to knee problems and doesn't catch Federer.

This article is from The Daily Beast. It says that Djokovic and Federer and Murray want to see an effort to increase testing for PED's. It says that they privately know that Nadal is juicing, but won't say it publicly. I can't cut and paste the article. You can Google The Daily Beast Nadal doping rumors and it will come up. It also goes into detail about signs of doping include hair loss, distorted forehead, disappearances due to suspension from the sport (unannounced like golf), sometimes joint and tendon issues. Where there is smoke, there is usually fire.

By the way, there is no way Federer is juicing. He is so skinny, tiny arms and no major injuries and a full head of hair. He is a classy champion a la natural! Also, he is quite a bit older than the other 3 of the Big 4. It is unfair if Nadal is stealing titles from the other guys!

da phuck,,,,, ped's are being used by everyone in all of sports....you phucktards don't think fball players are using them?? basketball players???

Everyone thinks you have to look like Arnold in order to be on ped's...Phuckin amazing...

I'm 13-15yrs old and my dad is pointing out baseball players that was on roids in the early 90s....That man was dead on than a mu phucka...Reggie Jackson too, he was juicing also...Look at his ass in Naked Gun and before, JUICING!!!.Don't believe the media hype, shit has been going on for a long time, a lot longer than people want to believe...

Nowadays, you can't hold your hand to the fire for anyone. But to be honest, i seriously doubt that NADAL is on any kind of perf.enhancing drugs… The kid is just a great freaky athlete that works his butt off, probably more so than most of the others. You're probably watching a legend in the making, how many majors is it now..12, and i don't see him losing to Stanislas Wrawrinka in the finals, and with the Roland Garros, this year he'll be looking at 14 majors, i think that's 1 short of Federer's 15 majors…At 26 y/o, he'll potentially end up with close to 20 or more..Nadal, is the Tiger Woods of tennis.. He's a solid, humble kid with tremendous family support, rarely you don't see his parents sitting in the stands and of course his uncle Toni his coach…I love tennis ,and have followed the sport for many years, going back to Laver, ashe, McEnroe, J.Connors(one of my all time favorites) , Stan Smith, Ivan Lendl, Guillermo Vilas,etc.. And all the power houses now playing, Murray, Federer, and Djokovic.. Tell you what, i've never seen anyone dominate like he's doing, and for as long as he's doing it, not even B.Borg in his prime ,or Sampras for that matter.. Barring injury, i think he may very well end up being the best tennis player ever, truth is it couldn't happened to a nicer kid, always humble and gracious, winning or in defeat..Just a perfect gentleman..Really a true role model..Will be terribly disappointed if i found out he was doing something illegal….THE

I, like everyone else here couldn't tell you with any certainty if Nadal is cheating, but Nadal is unique in that he was groomed from a very early age by his uncle, a peo soccer player to be a professional athlete. He's had a regimented lifestyle from a very early age, and is as methodical as Federer in that he is singular in his focus. When Federer was dominant people even made fun of his somewhat chubby girlfriend and wondered why he wasn't like the typical playboy tennis player, Nadal has many of the same qualities. There are just as many reasons to doubt the rumors as there are to believe them. As far as all the tennis experts, I'd like to see them for a whole match on the opposite end of a Nadal forehead, which was his singular weapon for years. He wore down players including Federer with it for years before developing the rest of his game. Some players have great serves and still can't crack the top 10 because you don't serve on every play or the majority of your shots, Nadal's massive topsin forehand on clay where the ball bounces higher than other surfaces was clearly too much for everyone on that surface, he later learned to flatten his shot and improved his serve as well as adding a defensive slice backhand and started winning on other surfaces...

Nadal is a warrior. He runs down every ball and puts every ounce of energy on every ball. He has been doing this since day one.
When he was younger his game was not geared towards grass or hard courts but he improved his serve, his cross court backhand and his down the line forehand. With these improvements he was able to win on grass and hard courts.
I really think losing to Fed in 2007 Wimbledon was his turning point. He was able to go toe to toe for 5 rounds with the champ on his best surface. The loss was breaking but he was one step closer. Once he beat Fed in the epic 2008 Wimbledon it was truly a changing of the guard. Nadal does not have the graceful footwork and strokes as Fed, the stamina and backhand as Djokovic but if you watch Nadal's matches the man grinds, he wills to win. That's why he has the knee issues..he runs around like a maniac.
As far as thinning hair please take a look at some pics of his dad.

Alex , totally agree with you. He has developed into a complete player, from basically being a clay court specialist, and that's not easy to do as you know.

So true homie. Forgot to mention that about his thinning hair..lol.

You guys have no idea WTF you are talking about. The ATP has been way ahead of the other major sports regarding doping & testing. These guys are tested non stop randomly throughout the world during their tournaments. Just last year alone 2 top 50 players were suspended for doping (Marin Cilic & Victor Troicki) & when you get suspended for doping it's no slap on the wrist like the NFL where you get suspended for your first offense 4 weeks in ATP it's suspension for 24 months. Rafa has been accused of doping his whole career by those who can't beat him, but to me he already is the G.O.A.T. & within a few years when he passes Roger for the most slams he will be viewed that way by all not just his fans.

If you know anything about tennis then you know that Rafa's serve compared to other top 20 guys is very weak. His net game is adequate, but nothing special. What makes Rafa the player he is has everything to do with the spin he gets on the ball that's generated by the whipping motion when he follows through on his ground strokes. I've attached a link from Rafa age 12 where you see him hitting his same backhand & forehand then. He also loses that day & his post match interview he has the maturity of a 30 year old man. The only other athlete in my lifetime that I've seen that's achieved his success that has the same fire to win was Michael Jordan. This is one of the greatest athletes of all time & because of his spanish accent he can't be marketed properly for everyone to appreciate him, but stop hating people as this guy works harder then his competitors & accusing him of juicing with no facts to back it up is pure BS. Just 2 words to all the haters......

VAMOS RAFA!!!!!

Funny how guys just want to have heroes, who cares if they are cheaters. Too funny. Then don't cry when UF pays Powell and LSU pays TV and we lose them.

Also, just found an article on ESPN The Magazine where a Spanish Official says that Doping is a huge problem with Spanish athletes. You can certainly Google it. So to understand the thinking on this, the highest profile athlete in the country of Spain, accused of doping by other players (ie: Lance Armstrong), can't be doing anything wrong in a country wrought with doping problems. LOL at the ability of the board to put pieces to a puzzle together, or at the very least to approach the facts with an open mind. Oh well, back to football. Go Canes!

A better question would be which pro athlete is NOT doping?

Myself, as a former ATP pro ranked as high as 8th in the world, a former top 5 heavyweight boxer getting ready to fight Tyson before I developed a 'mysterious' injury that forced me to retire, and last, as a current world top 5 ranked fighter in MMA's middleweight class I can honestly tell you that professional sports is clean of PEDs.
