Nadal is a warrior. He runs down every ball and puts every ounce of energy on every ball. He has been doing this since day one.
When he was younger his game was not geared towards grass or hard courts but he improved his serve, his cross court backhand and his down the line forehand. With these improvements he was able to win on grass and hard courts.
I really think losing to Fed in 2007 Wimbledon was his turning point. He was able to go toe to toe for 5 rounds with the champ on his best surface. The loss was breaking but he was one step closer. Once he beat Fed in the epic 2008 Wimbledon it was truly a changing of the guard. Nadal does not have the graceful footwork and strokes as Fed, the stamina and backhand as Djokovic but if you watch Nadal's matches the man grinds, he wills to win. That's why he has the knee issues..he runs around like a maniac.
As far as thinning hair please take a look at some pics of his dad.
