After suffering another defeat, this time in the actual Olympics, popovich doesn’t understand the reactions.
Dameon Willard says “man they play different, when they play for their country.

Thats right, French players understand the pride and importance of REPRESENTING your country.
Today America’s nba players, play for money.
No pride, no glory just plain old american dollars, let’s not forget the Chinese money as well.

“Man, they play different”!!!!

Yes sir, they take pride in their country, usa players take pride in their material things

There was a time like 92,and other Olympics, where American players played for pride and country!!!!!
Now we have a liberal, over the hill coach, thats simply “happy being there”, while PRAISING other teams.
No we will getting it together, we played terrible, this is unacceptable talk. We get popovich praising France

WTF???????
Current American nba players are a total joke
We lost to France!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We lost to France!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Havent watched in 2 years, made the mistake of watching it in the Olympics.
No more nba til current player's are gone and league changes it’s political stance in china
Pfffft

Here’s an alternative thought:

*international players have gotten better and better over the last 20 years. Three of the 5 top NBA players this year, including the league and NBA finals MVPs, are non-American

*our NBA players have had virtually no practice as a team. Many were in the NBA finals and just arrived in Tokyo

*international rules allow defensive 3 seconds and allow shot blockers to block and rebound the ball after it hits the rim. That’s not goal tending as it would be in the NBA.

*taking advantage of these rules, France posted two 7 footers near the rim for the 4th quarter. It worked. The US had a 10 point lead in the third then lost it as France dominated in the paint.

*drawing great conclusions from one Olympic game is risky business.

I agree with Majus to a degree. The players care only about themselves and their bank accounts.. Let's use Kyrie Irving as an example. He went to Duke, has a barrel of money and now thinks people should be interested in his views on everything. Face it, he's an unintelligent multi-millionaire. He player where he wants and when he wants. As for his view of a team concept...pfft. I congratulate the NBA for its financial success but the product is average, at best and the game is boring and impossible to watch. The NBA should be able to field 10 teams that could win the Olympics. France? Please!

Yeah, that certainly explains our first loss since 2004!
Not drawing conclusions from one game, we lost to Argentina in prelims.
We have ALWAYS played under international rules!
Take a look at who is NOT playing on the team, who decided representing their country wasn’t important enough.
Come on cortez, let’s call it what it is

Normally, the NBA season ends in May allowing a healthy gap between the season and the Olympics. Not so this year when the NBA finals ended one week before the games.

No way older players (LeBron, Curry) should have been expected to play in the Olympics this year. They had a Covid season in 2020 followed closely by a delayed 2021 season. They need their bodies to rest.

Stunnjngly, Kevin Durant decided to play even though he just returned from an Achilles Heal injury. Why did he elect to play? It wasn’t the money. Got to admire his guts.

Not stunningly, Durant understands and gets what it is to represent your country.
Your being asinine by saying older players shouldnt be expected to play. There aren’t many games
Every competitive team has the same issues.
They will fly over in private planes, stay in luxury, practice, play 4 games or so.
In Brazil they stayed on a private ship!
Thats unreasonable to you??? It’s not to me.
Furthermore you keep ignoring the jest of my OP.
Todays nba player, plays solely for money.
Unlike EVERY Olympics in history.

Very good points you make Majus...and I'll add that the USA players partly blamed the loss on "pops" Offense, saying it's a San Antonio offense. Next 2 games are vs Iran and Czech Republic...I won't be watching a minute...but no excuses not to blow than out...

Luka Doncic played in his 1st Olympics game last night, scored 48 points.....................Leading Slovenia to it's first ever Olympic basketball win

score almost 50% of what the USA put up against Argentina 2 weeks ago by himself

Majus,

You have ranted against US NBA players in Tokyo and the US women’s soccer players in the Olympics as well. You say you don’t watch either sport and then go on to give a critical and detailed attack on both US Olympic teams.

You attack the women as liberal, old lesbians more interested in politics than victory. You attack the men as selfish pros with no pride, concerned only about money. And they are now playing for a washed up liberal coach.

My take? Rather than avoid politics in sports, you are specifically using your own political lens and prejudices to judge our best national athletes. Throwing in a homophobic slur just for fun, you attack our soccer team that earns peanuts despite being the best team in the world. You attack our NBA players as selfish even though they agreed to play in Tokyo after a Covid filled 2020 and a long, tiring, delayed 2021 season.

Let‘s really call it what it is: you support and admire our national teams’ athletes only if they agree with your political prejudices and POV. Not much of a fan, are you?

France has five NBA players on their team and is made up of seasoned vets.

Don't even bother. Dude is as dumb as a box of rocks. His problem with the NBA is that the players are mostly black and don't agree with his narrow views. End of story.

The NBA is full of entitled, pampered pukes most of whom have wallet personalities. Their primary interest in international competition is enhancing their own brand as opposed to hoisting the US flag. From my perspective this has zero to do with people of color and everything to do with the NBA culture
