Ignoring results (since the Mario era has none), imo this is the most exciting hire in the history of UM football.
Howard wasnt an exciting hire because the only expectation was were we going to continue having a program.
Jimmy was largely an unknown at the time of his hire, and there was more trepidation than anything else … for me, Erickson was like Jimmy at the time.
Butch’s big buzz and appreciation came after he was gone.
When u factor in (a) Mario’s legacy as a championship player here, (b) his Saban experience, (c) what he was building at Oregon, Utah be damned, and (d) how far his program has fallen … imo this is an unprecedented buzz.
Unreal.
I hope it works out, because if they spend all this money and he fails, I’ll prbly never see a great UM program again.
