The convicted felon received a 20-year prison sentence for spearheading a 930 million Ponzi scheme and using that money to pay players and provide impermissible benefits at the time. He ultimately was responsible for NCAA violations involving the University of Miami, which led to a 'lack of institutional control' and officially three years probation for the program.

The scandal significantly damaged the Miami athletics programs for many years. Shapiro was released from prison four years ago and is now taking to social media.
