It's really hard to evaluate QB's without having them on the same field competing against the same level of competition. That being said, their HS career DOES give some indication of talent and potential. The big question is WHO will be able to make that jump and adjust to the speed of D1 football .. in addition to grasping the playbook / offense and required defensive reads. I am pretty sure it was Spurrier who said "maybe 25% of good HS QB's can make that transition .. in HS you get by with your athleticism and the fact that you're so much better than the rest of the kids on an average HS team .. D1 football is the equalizer".
Both of these kids were very successful in their respective high schools. Some have said (especially my friend from Central Florida) that Perry didn't play against high level competition. Vanguard (N'Kosi's school) was rated #909 nationally in 2015 and #339 in 2016, while Central Gwinnett (William's school) was ranked #4216 nationally in 2016 and #1731 in 2017.
STAT COMPARSION:
N'KOSI junior season:
2307 yards passing, 57% compl. %, 32 TD / 2 INT, Rushed 287 yards and 11 TD QBR 129
WILLIAMS junior season:
2628 yards passing, 60% compl %., 26 TD/ 4 int, Rushed 366 yards and 9 TD QBR 109
N'KOSI senior season:
1778 yards passing, 65% compl., 24 TD / 4 Int, 97 yards rushing, 4 TDs QBR 131
WILLIAMS senior season:
3015 yards passing, 62% completion %, 28 TD / 4 int, 554 yards rushing 10 TD's and 112 QBR
Two year key stat summary:
-N'Kosi 56 TD's passing, 6 INT's , and 15 TD's rushing
-Williams 54 TD's passing, 8 INT's, and 19 TD's rushing
STATISTICALLY very close .. and excellent TD: INT ratio, and close to a rushing TD every game.
Williams is already 205 pounds and is still in high school. He looks to be a bit faster (times recorded range from 4.78 - 4.51), and Perry get Kudos for being 'elusive'. It is great news that Williams will be an EE and this should be an interesting competition .. to see who has the best grasp of the playbook by the end of August. Spring ball will be interesting for sure .. I will be hitting "refresh" all day long looking for comments from Gary / Matt / King.
