You will never hear me proselytize on this board, and, in addition, I understand the need for rules. But the story in this link below, about a Texas HS team getting disqualified from the State Track Championships because one kid pointed to the heavens tells us that political correctness has run amuck in our country.

Somewhere along the line, America's Freedom of Religion has become Freedom FROM Religion.

For some reason, the Texas HS Athletic Association interprets a kid pointing at the heavens, something millions of athletes do every day, as "Taunting the Opponent."

Who is the opponent? Satan?

Just disgusting. We are no longer a nation where common sense prevails.

I seriously fear for the future of America. It will not be for or by the People for very much longer.
It is hardly noticeable on a daily basis, but very methodically, we are becoming subjects to rulers.....those that define the rules, rule over those that don't.
Getting scary.

I doubt the kid got disqualified for merely pointing at the sky, especially in Texas. Also, Rick Perry is a first class idiot.

Yep, it has literally reached the point of lunacy.

The subject of this tread is undeniably true and has been for years.. It gets worse every day.

I lean conservative but Rick Perry is a jacka$$

I saw a campaign add of his that said "Unfortunately we live in a country that allows gays in the military but doesn't allow prayer in the classroom"

Now that's just silly.. The constitution does say separation of church and state... It also talks about freedom of speech press and religion.

I can't believe this kid got thrown out for pointing at the sky.. If it was San Fran I might buy it. Sounds absurd.

But I enjoy all types of taunting and trash talking and did as a player...

There are also laws in NJ where I'm from that record officially "bullying" events and put that on your permanent record.. So if a 6th grader calls a girl a pig or some oter stupid nonsense he is permanently labeled a "bully"

Dealing with that kind of thing and getting past it is part of growin up..

Political correctness has become a religion that does not tolerate other religions, that is a fact. It has all its dogma in place PC has become a prevailing religion for those looking for answers. You tear down religion something will take its place.

The tide will roll the other way in the near future, that is the way short term history trends.. Its just a passing fade, is my view that has hit its peak.

FoxNews? I'm sure they got the story correct.

If it had been a Muslim that dropped down to pray I'm sure there would have been as much as an uproar about religious freedom.

Typical blind response...pretty similar to the "oh, MSNBC reported it?....it was be bullshit"

We would all be better off researching it, determining the validity, and then responding....pretty sad when our political views depend solely on who is reporting the news to us...

You mean I should ever trust a network that says Obama is promoting statutory rape by promoting contraceptives?

It has nothing to do with political views as I am a Republican that has more self-respect than to watch or listen to that garbage.

Here is the BS in the article.

He wasn't DQ for Thanking God, which the article suggests, but for breaking the rule of the league, which is making any type of gesture during or immediately after the competition.

Whether the rule is right or wrong, the way Fox spins it is to suggest that it was because of religion as oppose to making a gesture.

I think that it is disgusting that someone like Andyctree would carry his political biases into a discussion about something totally unrelated. The story was broadcast by a Fox affiliate in Texas, not by Fox News. Andyctree- does this mean that you have never turned on Channel 7 in Miami? People like Andyctree are exactly the kind of people I am talking about. To him, the fact that it was broadcast by a regional affiliate of a network (Fox TV) that is owned by the same company who owns Fox News is a reason for him to question this story. In other words, Andyctree personal bias affects everything else he does in his life. He carries his hate with him everywhere.

People like Andyctree are incapable of looking at this story for what it is, which is an institution run amuck.

To you people who say "Well, that's the rule", I say shame on you. Does anybody who has any sense at all think that the Texas HS Athletic Association created the no-taunting rule for a situation like this? In fact, there is not one person in the story who thinks the winner was taunting anybody.

So therefore, where is the common sense? Why do we have people enforce rules if no common sense is brought in to play? Might as well use robots.

I have always stood up to unfairness in my life. There have been many times I have stood at a city council meeting or a school assembly and have been the only adult in the room saying that a certain policy or a certain decision makes no sense. I was raised by two parents that also were often the only one to stand up for injustice. If you every saw the movie 12 Angry Men, the Henry Fonda character was a guy like my dad. When something is wrong, you should stand up against it.

What happened to these kids in Texas was injustice, pure and simple. And I feel sorry for anyone who does not understand that common sense, wisdom, and the courage to use that common sense and wisdom are attributes that more leaders need. If we don't start to get some more common sense decisions out of our leaders, I feel sorry for the future of our country.

Our country is the way it is because that is how the media wants it to be.

Everything is sensationalized, and over the top.

Our society craves ridiculousness, and that is what we receive. You can criticize me all you want, but the reality of this situation and cause of this kind of nonsense is solely on the media. I'm sure the media created a shitstorm on a previous issue of celebration that created this rule, and now they are enjoying the news coverage they have created.

It is a complete injustice what happened to these kids, and it still would be if this kid did a dance at the end instead of praying to god.

Say what you want now, but when you and drama queen CDSlant first posted, you assumed it was Fox News national...not an affiliate...and simply just outed yourselves for what you are...

What's sad is that you believe politically biased news stations.

If its a zero tolerance policy I'm with JOER they are stupid. However, to the greater point, this was started as a rant against political correctness. Zero tolerance policies were initially pushed by conservative groups on issues like 3 strikes and your out laws, weapons in school laws, etc. I despise all zero tolerance policies because they do not allow for the judiciary to make reasoned decisions. I understand that in some places you may have jury nullification that could avoid justice but the greater outcome is typically injustice. Kid who just turned 18 dating his girl for three years and on prom they hook up and she's a week from turning 16 but b/c she is 15 parents have him thrown in jail and he is a lifelong felon and sexual predator.

So if this was indeed a zero tolerance policy I don't think its a PC issue. Hell it could be a Miami rules type issue (they are still butt sore over the cotton bowl ya know) either way its dumb.

I do think that a lot of people believe that they should be able to say racist, homophobic, mysoginistic crap when confronted scream PC as an affirmative defense... clearly thats not what Joer is doing. I agree with Joer's point, this situation was stupid....even if not pc.

I'm with Andytree on this one.

Story was completely taken out of context although it really is no shock when you consider who reported it....lmao. Come on man! Political correctness is a very subjective term. I think that when people complain about being too politically correct, they try to give the impression that they have tough skin and you don't.

Are there people that are overly sensitive? Sure there are...but every person that is overly sensitive has a basis for that or a reason they are overly sensitive. It isn't because they just wanna be a drama queen usually.
