First, let me start by saying that I am a University of Miami alumn. I graduate in 2000 with a Major Finance. Since then I have worked for some of the biggest names in corporate America primarily in the Sports and Media industries.
Secondly, I have followed Canesport for many years, but never once was I compelled to write a post or reply to any. This is the first time I have ever done so.
With those qualifiers being said, here is a how I think the University should handle things.
Step One
Fire Al Golden and Coach D immediately. By immediately I mean today, Sunday, October 25th. Put James Coley, Art Kehoe or any one of the remaining staff members to serve as interim coach.
Step Two
Issue a statement thanking him for his service. However, in the same statement send a powerful message about the program's future. The following is an example of some of the messaging that can be used:
While there is never a perfect plan, I do believe that what I outlined above will help to re-energize the alumni base and give the current players and future recruits the hope that they so desperately need. Lastly, for anyone that believes you can't fire a coach during the season, look at what USC did last night against the 3rd ranked team in the country. Look at what the Dolphins did last week. The blueprint is right in front of us, we just have to open our eyes and be willing to make the uncommon decision.
P.S. Please excuse any typos..

- We will immediately begin process of identifying an new coach that will put us in the best position to win National Championships in the immediate future while upholding the Universities standards for academics, character and community.
- We want the entire University of Miami family to know that we are committed to winning and anything less is unacceptable
- We are establishing an advisory committee of five (5) members that will work in an advisory capacity as we begin to identify potential candidates and make the decision on the future head coach. The advisory committee will consist of a three (3) members from the BOT, former coach Jimmy Johnson and one (1) former player.
- We are also establishing a committee consisting of former players and other notable alumni to serve as brand ambassadors during this period of transition. Their goal will be to bring back the luster and trust that our once great program has lost over the last decade. You may see these individuals in the community, on local and national media, on social media and any where else that we can spread the message about the how proud they are to be a part of the University of Miami family.
