Spoke today with one of my friends from grad school who’s son was a GA at UVA last year and is now at James Madison doing player development. My friend went to FSU so there is generally some cross pollination of information between our two universities.
He said his son last year mentioned that Miami has superior athleticism and talent but was amazed how fundamentally and technically unsound the team played, specifically on defense. Mentioned when breaking down game film this really pops out on film and there are opportunities to exploit this as well as of the aggressive nature.
This was one area he son said that Bronco and his staff work night and day on with there players. He mentioned Juan Thornhill and compared him to Redwine as an example. Both had equal athleticism but one was taken in the second round because of how sound he played when viewing his overall tapes.
My friends son also bet that Snowden would be the first linebacker taken of any Coastal team.
I have been thinking about the player development side and watching players plateau under current defensive staff with there being a few exceptions. This also plays a huge role in recruiting as the number one thing kids want is to be drafted, preferably on day one. You would have to think that the more kids that come through under Diaz and staff, the more you need to have proof of you being able to develop that kids.
