Temple fired Rod Carey after three seasons.
Diaz needs at least two more years to really learn how to coach. The fact that he gets the most effort out of anyone is commendable, but if you do not know your Xs and Os and the basics like catch the ball or make a tackle then you really are just a motivational speaker and not a coach. He really needs to learn how to evaluate players, because the players he brought here to play LB were great for Temple, but not in a Power 5 conference. Diaz inherited Shaq, Pink, and McCloud from D'Onfrio and recruited every other player at LB. His coaching at LB and his scheme at LB is either so bad or too complicated that even a 5th year LB had to switch position just to get enough good film to show the NFL.
What do you expect?
Diaz is learning on the job while drinking from a water cannon. This stage is too big for him and he needs to go back to Temple and learn there. If he can recruit LB at Temple like he did here then his defense will be one of the best ever at Temple. Build a name for yourself and then rejoin the big boys table, but not on Miami's dime. Go back to Temple and rebuild your name beating up on teams like Duke for a full time basis. If you are really meant to coach then you will build them into a conference power house before you land your dream job.
