OL absolutely has work to do. Understand this. I honestly believe the 5 u had out there tonight are the 5 that are the best to be put out. Yes they got beat probably 50/50 to the outside as well as inside. Positives are I didnt get the sense they gave up. Nelson is an 18 year old undersized freshmen going up against a 1st rounder in zuniga. I would have expected more help but they needed Jordan in the routes along with the backs. Having 2 lockdown corners allowed UF to control the outside and blitz more than I thought they would. Nelson will develop. The rest of the OL played about what I expected against a pretty good D.
Williams I think is the right QB. He was in a no win situation and pretty much set us up to win.
Deejay is the heart and soul of the offense.
WR and TE did a good job getting open and making catches. Only a couple of drops. Thomas if he wants to be a 1st rounder has to make that catch in the endzone.
Special teams. Obviously the muffed punt by thomas hurt bad. Baxas missed field goal hurt as bad. The fake field goal was a great call only to be nullified, except for the 1st down, by a garbage holding call on Mallory....wasn't holding. Hedley punted well kicking from the end zone. Best kick was the soccer style punt.
Defense....limited blitz packages due to the dual threat of franks. That said our D didnt get much pressure. Though if u would have told me we shut down their run attack and still lost I wouldnt have believed you. 4 turnovers hopefully continues that trend. Played with resiliency after horrible calls and playing on our side of the 50 for a good bit of the 1st half.
All in all it was a sloppy game. Way too many penalties that cost us to expect to win against a top 20 team.
The coaches have their work cut out for them. Plenty of good things to build on. Really no reason we dont go 10-2 or even 11-1. We will not see an O or D like that until December in Charlotte.
