Got a call this morning from my old friend Ray and thought I would share .
As you know Ray was the first African American football player for the Canes. He’s doing great and is retiring this week from FAMU .
We talked of the old days when we ran the Student Government together and there were few blacks on campus. How far we have come as a school and cult
He still stays in touch with the original black athletes, like Burgess and Chuck. Unfortunately my buddy Tom Sullivan ( the 2nd black player ) died in an automobile accident. Ray gave a eulogy.
He was positive about our chances this year , but we both have seen a lot of ups and downs over 50 years .
Talking with Ray does provide some perspective and I did get an invite, as a guest to the ex players box for a home game!
