First off, this game was the most physical game of the year for our canes.. I havent seen this amount of guys that were physically hurting after another game all season, not even close.. Homer tweaked his leg, Berrios ankle, Darling looked like ankle, Jackson and Chad Thomas both were hobbling some and Thomas looked like it may be his shoulder, and Richards again was limping some, and thats just the ones I actually noticed.. We still have Harley struggling after another ankle issue late last week in practice who was out for the game as well... So this will be a crucial issue for Richt and the staff to deal with..
In the Thursday update we talked about last week being the best week of practice for the canes all year... They were crisp, and the staff was extremely focused.. No communication issues, the wideouts and backs were on point with blocking assignments, the wideouts were making all the catches, just a really solid week.. Obviously it showed, we talked about a double digit win in that thread and it was clear, it could have been an absolute blowout.. The canes had an edge in athleticism that was noticeable on film and the staff knew that as long as the offense could do its job we would be good on defense.. Exceptional job by everyone involved last week in prep..
Homer/Deejay is such a good combo.. Homer tweaked his leg a few series after his long run and wasnt the same, but that kid is maybe pound for pound our toughest player, at just a shade over 190 he still has the ability to break tackles consistently.. The trainers would be working with him or checking on him and he would force his way back out for punt coverage or back onto the field.. The kid is relentless.. How about that speed on his long run? Been a while since we had a back who you knew was gone if there was daylight, even Duke Johnson didnt quite have the top end speed to finish off some of those plays like that. Oh and his pass blocking is down right outstanding....Dallas is a true gamechanger, not necessarily his top end speed, but his short burst and elusiveness is quite good.. You could tell all week as he continued to make plays that the staff knew he was ready.. Thomas Brown made a comment mid week that he cant believe Dallas is a true frosh.. His ability is rare, because overall he is very similar to Mark Walton, a guy who could play multiple spots and help a team in any way needed.. This kid will drop 5-10 pounds this offseason and be unreal next year in the slot. Choc was in on some short yardage work last week and I believe if he has a role moving forward it will be in that capacity..
The sign of a quality team, you get injured, you may lose your starting spot.. Delaney may have realized that as he watched last night from the sideline for 75% of the game.. Jackson, Young, and Bandy were lights out, on top of that they all mix so well and communicate so well.. Redwine and Johnson have become the leaders of that secondary, and how could you set any of those guys for Delaney? You cant.. Thats a GREAT SIGN!!
As we talked about Thursday, Richt spent the week with Rosier working on what happens during breakdowns more than anything.. You could see his decisiveness the moment he wanted to run.. It was beautiful... Bud Foster had to be wishing Kaaya was the qb over and over.. The best part, after each pick they continued to push him to keep attacking.. His throw to Richards was gorgeous and he didnt second guess it, even after those picks, excellent job by the staff. . Kid is a true gamer, not perfect, but has what it takes to take us as high as we can go...
We will see how the team progresses health wise, but the guys are hurting, and it will take a huge effort to get ready for the type of game needed next saturday.. This week is a huge chance for the staff to build on such a great week of prep last week and challenge these guys mentally to become an elite level product in practice and games.. That practice last week was something I personally havent seen in a long time at miami, and you could see that every person wanted it...
One last thing, yes we have some guys upset with playing time, but thats what happens when you are loaded with talent.. Mullins and Cager need to understand their roles now, and they only have two options, leave, or fight to get better.. My guess is at least one leaves.. Just a hunch..
Have a good day guys..
