You earned the moniker Wade County. You have been a classy champion and a terrific inspiration. We will miss you and I will hold no animosity towards you if you split now for a better deal. I think Riley has a difficult decision considering the rebuilding of the team and your age and injury issues.

Thanks again. Good luck wherever you land.

Oh, by the way this is in response to today's story that D. Wade has put himself on the market in response to a lackluster start to negotiations on a new contract.

A good team cuts loose of aging stars on the decline before overpaying them (see NE Patriits) and getting stuck with an anchor contract like Lakers did with Kobe. His contract kept Lakers down for the last few years.

Good point.. if d wade wants more than 20 mil, he aint gonna get it from the heat.. and shame on any team that pays more than that for him at this stage of his career..

Man Kobe is one of the greatest players that ever lived. The lakers aren't going to cut him loose. That's crazy dude. He made them millions and got them many many championships. Wade is not Kobe.

Just an FYI, in case you hadn't heard. You are right, the Lakers aren't going to cut him loose, HE RETIRED!

Wade is a better player than Kobe...Kobe was a selfish me-first player who was a great shooter and scorer and could do everything if he wanted to, but most of the time he didn't want to...so his defense and rebounding and assists were spotty, he got them when he felt like it. Wade makes everybody around him better, he is best shot-blocking guard of all time, plays good off the ball defense, and is just a smart team player. Makes up for his so-so shooting with smarts and guts. He was easily the best player and MVP of the olympic dream team (which had Kobe on it). That said, he's on down side of career and hard to believe any team would pay him more than Miami, so don't believe he's leaving.

Its more than that. When the Lakers signed Kobe to an extension he was coming off one of his best years ever at 34. If he had Wade's 2016 numbers in 2013 no way do the Lakers give Kobe 50 million. There is always a risk when giving a big contract extension after injury but Kobe's age didnt slow him down in 2013 and at the time it was worth the risk because he was still elite the year before. With Wade the Heat know what they're going to get regardless if Wade is healthy.

I hear what you are saying but the reason he was coming off one of his best year ever at age 34 is because he is one of the best players that have ever lived.

Not disagreeing.....he was clearly one of the top five ever with Jordan, Russel, Kareem and Wilt. But Kobe's name was brought into this thread as an example of why loyalty should not be rewarded by giving what a poster referred to as an "anchor contract" when in fact the Lakers were looking more at the fact he could still play top ball in his mid-thirties. Its easier to justify giving a big contract to someone who suffered an injury (Kobe) than it is to give a big contract to someone whose skills have declined (Wade). In a matter of two years Kobe went from shooting lights out to shooting in the 30% range which was impossible for anyone to foresee even with his injury so at the time of his extension its hard to blame the Lakers.
