There's been a lot of talk about Kaaya, the three headed monster at running back, the spoils of riches we have at Wide Receiver/Tight End, and the surprise improved play of the secondary... However, the LEFT TACKLE position is a topic which has been overlooked for much of the off-season, and I think it is a BIG Question Mark which warrants more discussion.

Just looking at the four Tackles we have on the two-deep depth chart in Sunny, KC, Darling, and Jahir, they are ALL SOPHMORES... So right there that is a concern for me, because there is going to be less experience handling those outside pass rushers. That is first and foremost. Second, WHO is going to be the long-term starter at LEFT TACKLE...??? If this offensive line, and specifically the Left Tackle, cannot keep Kaaya upright and HEALTHY for four quarters, then all of this talk about our arsenal of weapons isn't going to do our offense much good...

So, I have a few thoughts on this issue, and how I think things will shape up at Left Tackle. First, the fact that we have two proverbial "warm up" games in FAU and Bethune to start the season is a BIG BONUS in addressing this issue, because it will allow Kehoe and the coaching staff to do a little "Left Tackle By Committee" approach to start the season, especially during the Bethune game where there should be no threat of Kaaya being pressured. Second, I think that could see Isidora slide out there to Left Tackle. I could be wrong, but I recall Gary said he had some concerns about sliding Isidora out there to Left Tackle because he didn't have the quickness to handle the better rush ends and backers. Fair concern, but I think he is still a viable option given his size and the fact that he has a little more experience as a Junior. Maybe Isidora can "spot start" there on an emergency/temporary basis... That's one option there- another option would be to allow K.C. and Darling battle it out, because I think that Sunny will be at right tackle. Sunny hasn't played Right Tackle, so ultimately, I think that K.C., Shane's brother, will play Left Tackle. I don't know what exactly it is I like about K.C., but I think that from a complete package standpoint, he will be the best (albeit with concern) option at Left Tackle I think that Darling is capable of Left Tackle, but I think these off-season scrimmages and first few games will see K.C. emerge as THE STARTING LEFT TACKLE. Just my two cents- of course I could be wrong, and of course we will see how it all unfolds soon enough...

Overall, I think that the offensive line is capable of doing okay. It isn't elite, and there are without a doubt concerns as we start the season, but I think that the FAU and BETHUNE games will give this offensive line MUCH NEEDED GAME EXPERIENCE to see how they handle playing with each other as a UNIT- remember, COHESIVENESS is THE most important thing an offensive line can have to be most effective, and having a CONSISTENT STARTING FIVE will help that. Fingers crossed that everyone can stay healthy on the offensive line, because with Flowers in the NFL and Gadbois gonzo, we have some serious talent to replace.

Go Canes...!!!

Prost! (Cheers!)
