Go back and watch the highlights over the 80's/90's or early 2000's. Those teams played angry almost all of the time. It showed up in their physicality and speed on the field. Call it passion, energy, focus, chip on the shoulder, fear of losing, swag, etc. etc. I call it playing angry. There's probably 2-3 games a year where we show up and play with that sort of attitude. 2017 ND would be the best example, but the FSU games last couple of years are as well. Playing angry covers up some scheme or unit talent deficiency on a given day. We have plenty of talent and a good enough scheme. Playing angry always felt like we were playing aggressive even if the game plans were similar. The game has changed a bit with the spread offenses, but the principal still works and fits the style of kid we should have at the U. Go get the ball in the air or run through people on offense and attack the ball and ball carrier on defense. Have 11 guys with the same mentality on the field. That is Cane football and what we severely miss. Starts with the head coaches. Too passive and nice. JJ, Erickson, Butch had that mentality. Coker, Golden, Richt did not. Shannon could not find the right OC to partner with. Diaz could bring that mentality, but he is too insecure and wanting to be liked by his players to do it so far. Need to find that combo of players and coaches. I know Gary will say Mario has that fire in his belly and mentality. I tend to agree, but the grass always looks greener elsewhere when things are not going well here.
