That is the harsh reality.
So, getting all wound up over what Gary reports either good or bad is just a waste of time. None of us knows what is going to happen.
Obviously, this team / program has a lot of things that need to be fixed. We won 6 games and to me most of the those loses can be attributed more to the mental aspect of the team than anything.
We are not going to be able to assess much this spring. NO PADS! FEW 11 on 11's! I NJURY PREVENTION! INJURY RECOVERY! REFUSAL TO SHOW THE MEDIA ANYTHING MEANINFUL! All, in no particular order.
The fact is we just aren't going to learn much of anything. What we do learn we aren't really going to know what to make of it. Do we have pass coverage issues or our receivers and Kaaya that good? Is this defensive line developing or is the offensive line that bad? How good is Malik? He seems to be productive with a bad offensive line? How good is AQM? All the players say he is a "Beast".
The thing is for someone to look good, someone else has to look bad. Ideally you want some back and forth but I don't know what to make of any of it. I discern the information and take it for what it is right now. Just raw information. These scrimmages really have never been anything more than installations and identifying who is picking up what. Hell, I doubt they are even showing much of what is installed in the actual scrimmage. Coaches are paranoid!
The best thing to do as hard as it may be is to not wrap your hopes around what is going on in the spring and summer. Good or Bad. I wouldn't put much weight on it either way in regards to on the field.
I mostly am paying attention to how individuals are staying healthy and picking things up.
I say this every single year and this year is no exception. I need the pads to come on in the fall to give any real assessment. Even that is not going to tell us what we need but at least we will see a lot more to base things on from a mental and physical perspective.
There won't be any guarentees good or bad so just chillax!
