i know when u guys first see the title the first things that spring to mind or u might want to counter with is " how can this be his best team when we lost all those guys to the NFL" or " impossible because because we lack depth at this spot & that spot" or " you are just trolling".
Seriously though whether u agree or not coach golden has a outline/plan of how he wants this team to be and look. Defensively he has the body types and player types to fit what he wants to do and be on defense. If u don't know what type of defense he is wanting to run refer to my thread about our defense. Truth is that despite how talented Denzel perryman is he didn't fit what they were asking him to do in the defense they are wanting to run. It's pretty much how johnathan vilma didn't fit Rex Ryan's 3-4 defense and how shady McCoy didn't really fit Chip Kelly's offense. By NO means am I saying Denzel was not talented and that he didn't make plays, what I'm saying is that Denzel was not a true fit for what they want to run defensely. Kirby himself is not a perfect fit but his skill set matches better for a mike backer in this defense. Juwon is probably the best fit for what they want to do.
Offensively golden wants to look like Stanford. He wants to run a 2 TE pro style offense that is more predicated on the run. They will run some 3 wr sets but they want to run 2 TE. Hence the focus on size and Duke gaining more size. Gus fits what they want to do.
Now we can argue all day if Miami and coach golden have the difference makers on offense and defense, but that is a separate argument that can not be truly answered until after this season.
My point is that for what coach golden wants to run and the identity he wants Miami to have he has the body types that fit it and the players that fit the certain roles he wants for his offense and defense. This is why I say this is Goldens best team. This year there should be guys playing the positions that they are best suited for not playing out of position say like a chickillo or perryman.
