Pissed, but not surprised. The allegations against Moore, regardless of whether they were true or false, proved to be too much for Moore to overcome.

Jones became the first Alabama elected Democratic Senator since 1992.

Truth be told, the GOP has nobody to blame but itself in this defeat. Roy Moore didn't have to be the GOP nominee for Senator, and by all accounts there were at least half a dozen candidates who out polled Doug Jones by more than 10%. But it was not meant to be, and many Alabama Republicans were, in their respective minds, faced with the dilemma of having to choose between either (1) voting for Moore; (2) staying home; (3) voting for a write-in candidate; or (4) even voting for Doug Jones.

In the end, enough Alabama Republicans chose options 2-4 over 1.

But as much as the blame goes to the GOP for failing to nominate a better candidate for Senator, the credit should go to the Democrats. For all the whining, bitching, and complaining diarrhea that the flaming far left liberals consistently spew on a daily basis, Doug Jones is a quality candidate. A centrist Democrat who represents what the Democratic Party used to represent on a mainstream scale when I voted for Kerry in 2004 (the only time I have voted for a Democratic Presidential nominee). The concern for the GOP is not that Alabama elected a Democrat to the Senate, but that it elected a moderate Democrat to the Senate. Jones joins a list of quality centrist Democrats in the Senate like Joe Manchin (D-WV), Corey Gardner (D-CO), and Tammy Baldwin (D-WI).

But contrary to the premature liberal parades this morning, it is the Democrats who have to defend 25 Senate seats next summer in the 2018 Midterm Elections... Do the Democrats use the Jones victory as a blueprint to start nominating more reasonable Democratic politicians like Jones, Manchin, Gardner, and Baldwin, instead of the incompetent, intolerant, and idiotic flaming far left liberals like Warren, Schumer, and Harris...? Or does the flaming far left liberal faction of the Democratic Party continue to be a political albatross around the Donkey Party's neck? Time will tell.

"Get over it"...? Lmao. What a stooge. Coming from the guy who starts 50 threads a week on Trump because he suffers from Trump Derangement Syndrome and has been having a mental breakdown since November 2016. God help you and your beloved party defending 25 seats next summer doing nothing but calling everyone opposing you a racist, bigot, facist, blah blah blah.

Hilarious how Libs use words like “fascist” yet can’t give and example of a fascist Trump policy. Sad you sit here and regurgitate phrases and words.

With all the clowns in DC both sides, He at least had a lot of entertainment value. Riding in on his horse to vote, I know I laughed pretty hard.

A fair assessment.

I think conservatives are slowly starting to see that they don't have to march in lock step with the Trump/Bannon/Moore cabal of "culture warriors", and can actually still adhere to good old traditional, dignified conservative principles of streamlined governance, a simpler tax code, strong defense, and the rule of law; without having to resort to the sort of banana republic demagoguery that Bannon is pushing. Moore's demise is actually a great thing for both parties and the country as a whole, because had he won, he would've been a walking negative ad for the GOP as he walked the halls of the Senate with a gaggle of journalists stalking him to extract his latest controversial statement.

Counselor, you seem to focus on what the image of the Democratic party s/b as opposed to what the Republican party has become. The Republican party is now the party of Trump. Your party has no tolerance for minorities or people who are different. Religious freedom is a thing of the past. Your party has shown a lack of compassion for children as evident by your refusal to approve CHIP but yet tax breaks to the wealthy are ok.

A grossly oversimplified, inaccurate, and contorted summary of the GOP, but at least a better attempt at making a salient argument.

You might be a lawyer but your assessment of my post is not top notch lawyering work. Trump who is the face of the GOP has brought shame to your party. He has embarrassed this country internationally and has become a threat to world peace. Yesterday, he called a female member of the senate a whore. Do you support such behavior? Unfortunately, you and other right wingers will learn the hard way that Trump is corrupt and he's not good for America.

Probably your best political post......can't disagree with anything you said. The best case scenario for America would be for both parties to start putting up more moderate candidates. I highly doubt last nights election really moves the needle in the political climate but it would be great for all if we could get senators/representatives not bound by a party line but rather ones who vote with what they truly believe is best for America. The art of compromise is gone. Neither party wants to cede any ground to the other, thus failing to negotiate on practically anything.

As a lifelong Republican, I respectfully disagree. My Party has been hijacked by first the Tea Party and now the Trumpers. The thrust of the Party has shifted from responsible fiscal policy and a robust national Defense policy anchored by our long time alliances in NATO and SEATO, to focusing on social issues like abortion, same sex marriage and transgender bathroom usage all things which should be left to the church not the National Political discourse. Finally there is Trump, uncouth, uncultured, and unpresidential. He is the least intellectually curious person ever to hold his office. He delights in giving offense to our friends and his choices for Judgeships are so bad that Chuck Grassley has sent the last 2 back to Trump and demanding he provide people who are qualified. Because we are no longer a big tent party, reading out historically Moderate Republicans as rinos we will lose support on the center and center right. You can't win elections that way.

Boom! That's an inclusive American Republican in tradition of Lincoln and Ike.
Thank you sir!

I don’t share the same hatred of true liberals you do, but I do agree that it would be wise for the Democrats to move toward the center, the same for Republicans.

For the most part, everyone agrees on social issues. It is the fine tuning of other policies that ppl disagree on. The problem lies that in the age of social media, you see radical Republicans/Democrats with the loudest voices, yet they represent the minority of either party. A big part of politics is the ability to compromise, and as we get more candidates from both side of the aisle to move toward the center, we will solve a ton more problems.
