This is one of the worst FSU teams I have seen since I can’t remember. Poor defense, poor QB play, and poor situational football. Not a lot of impact players, so it’s easy to see why FSU is a 7-loss team. Mike Norvell did a phenomenal job at Memphis, but like Wilberto Taggerto, he has failed to successfully go from mid-Major success to Power-5 big program success.
FSU has failed to score more than 30 points in 4 out of 7 against FBS opponents. Much like us, their coaching, offense, and 3rd Down Conversion % has been atrocious for most of the year. The difference in this game is simple: Tyler Van Dyke. The freshman has been nothing short of sensational over the last four games, and is singlehandedly saving Manny’s job. It’s amazing how much better the Offense looks with TVD when we are able to use multiple layers in the passing game to open up the running game for Rooster.
Defensively, Florida State ranks 70th or worse in almost every statistical category except for one: Red Zone Defense at 6th. Conversely, we are DEAD LAST in Red Zone Defense at 129th. Manny’s Defense in Year 7 for the all football chick mouthbreathers who think this politician’s son is anything but a 7-5 to 9-3 coach. The only reason for this winning right now is because we have a STUD at QB in TVD and Rhett is a very good OC with experience with high caliber QBs.
1st Quarter, I think that we start strong and jump out to a 7-0/10-3 type lead. We get a turnover early somewhere. TVD touchdown pass. Things are good early. 10-7 MiamiFirst Quarter.
2nd Quarter, I think that TVD throws an INT and FSU capitalizes with a TD but we respond with a TD- the teams exchange TDs and we add a FG to close out the First Half. 17-14 Miami.
Third Quarter, I think the game slows down with some 3-and-outs to start the second half. Maybe 2-3 later in the quarter. 23-17 Miami.
Fourth Quarter, I think that the game still mostly mundane after a higher scoring first 20-25 minutes. I think we force another turnover - an INT and TVD capitalizes with a TD pass. We take a commanding 30-17 lead early in the quarter, but FSU claws its way back with a TD to make it a 30-24 game. Borregales adds a key FG late to stretch it back to a two possession game, and FSU goes turnover on downs to allow us to run the clock out for the win.
Closer game throughout the game but it never really feels like we’re going to lose it and we come away clearly looking like the better team with TVD.
