This is long but it’s gonna be a long year so … ya got time to read it if ya want to……

Imho forgone conclusion that Manny is done. Likely will not happen until season is closed out. A lot of these hires come down to fit and timing and not wants and fan desires…. Now we get to see if the BOT is all in or just does not care if we are Temple….

Bad fits and you usually know quickly… exhibit a is Scott Frost, good coach, bad fit but the alma mater illusion made it look a nice fit.

My personal opinion is that they have to go big or at least try….. Mario, Meyer, or Kiffin.

imho the timing is wrong for Mario to come back. We don’t have a committed AD or history of being committed to the program. Mario likely would not commit without assurances that would have to come on the form of “his AD” getting the AD job…so the sequence is off…

Fickell does not bring the fear factor needed, nor does he have the “gunslinger” in him to do things outside the box his way to be the right guy in this environment.

Butch’s time has passed IMO.

Leach is likely set given the timing and where he is right now on program development.

Matt Campbell is a good coach but does not have national recruiting appeal and would appeal to the BOT but would be a questionable transition. Not a sure thing in this environment.

Transitioning from a “want” to evaluate “possible”, two to three guys that jump out have questions but have high upside and high floor….the timing may be right on one above all others…. Urban Meyer, Lane Kiffin, and Greg Schiano if you go big. Of the three Meyer and Schiano stand out as “the timing might be right”….particularly Urban…

Kiffin would have to see this as a destination job and I don’t see that given he is in a good situation at Ole Miss. If Meyer finds he is not an NFL guy then the timing would be perfect for end of year hire, he is “cocky” enough to run over an AD and believe he can operate outside the AD and an uncommitted BOT and succeed. So he makes the most sense. Schiano is a bit more of a concern likely to BOT…. So if they go big I believe Meyer is the most likely best guy.

if they target “second tier” then I think Billy Napier ia at the top of the list. Saban tree but has shown ability to translate to wins, and did not learn to be a prick so is likely going to appeal to BOT. Will Healey is a Dabo tree guy but has shown great skills in program development and is a good recruiter, but likely not a high enough level of confidence to pull the trigger on.

Some other names that would have appeal are Jeff Hafley, Eli Drinkwitz, Neal Brown, Jamey Chadwell, Tom Allen and Lance Leipold would be considered for reason that make this post longer than it already is.

in the end imho urban Meyer is the best choice depending on his commitment to the NFL, and if they go Tier two then Billy Napier and Eli Drinkwitz have the swagger, confidence, skills and drive to be the top two. Napier is the organized methodical yet dynamic enough guy to be a big hit…Drinkwitz imho shows swag, great with the press and would be great with BOT but lacks “pedigree” and would not be a popular fan choice….this program needs to get tougher and work harder so I think Meyer, Napier, and Drinkwitz would be good choices….but if they are committed and go big as they need to and pressure may dictate then Urban, Mario and Lane Kiffin are almost “must gets” to satisfy the fan base….

If the BOT decides being Rutgers or Elon is acceptable then Billy Napier or Eli Drinkwitz would be the best choice imho.
