Thanks to the Rudy movie, my 8 year old son is enamored with the Irish and on our trip to Chi-Town this weekend, I booked us on a campus and stadium tour.

Please bear in mind we both wore our U proudly during our visit and had many people approach us asking how it we were allowed on campus - lol. Overall, very friendly people and Beautiful campus.

Anyways, I couldnt help but notice how in less than 20 years they were able to save their stadium and undergo 2 renovations (more recent one still ongoing and estimated at $400 million plus) - saddened me a great deal how a private institution that has basically the same amount of students and maybe alumni have been able to raise funds needed for their stadium.

Yes I am well aware of their NBC deal and recent UA apparel deal but tour guide stated at least 70% of both renovation projects was underwritten by private fundraising. Stadium is nothing special but the history it has is what is cherished by their fans and eventually saved it from being torn down.

Too bad we couldn't do the same for the OB.
