One of the unspoken roles of a country’s military is to support the party in power in the event of an insurrection. Things like what happened at the Capitol building in January scare the crap out of politicians.

I DO NOT believe that was an attempt to overthrow the government but it got peoples attention.

I’ve seen other articles where nefarious government types look to determine the political makeup of our current military and attempt to gauge which way they would swing in a real coup.

Stacking the military with those who think like you increases the odds of them supporting you during the unthinkable.

Look to Venezuela. In a nasty contested election, the “winner” is ultimately the one supported by the military.
