"In a letter to players sent Jan. 1, Golden stated his manifesto for the new year. As an example he used TCU, which went from 4-8 in 2013 to barely missing the College Football Playoff in 2014. The reason, he wrote: it became an unselfish team."
Gary Patterson credited his new scheme and coaching staff changes but Al Golden knows the truth, it was the unselfishness of the team. Patterson tried to keep the secret to himself but sports psychology major Alfred Theodore Golden was not going to fall for his tricks.
"He bristled when asked at a season-opening press conference how many wins he thinks he needs in 2015 to remain Hurricanes coach in 2016.
“I’m not worried about it,” he said, cutting off the question. “That’s your job. You guys can worry about it. My job is to get the team ready. And I’m going to have them ready.
“I’m excited” about 2015, he said. “That’s it. You guys want to keep talking about the past. There are only four months left in this freakin’ year. I want to enjoy this year.”
