Update:

Caniacs, Miami beat FAU 11-4 at The Light Wednesday in s 3+ hour game. The U scored 10x between the 3rd and 6th innings to win it and had the Owls their first loss of the year and it snaps a 3 game losing streak, all from last year.

The big bat came from Alex Toral who slugged 2 HRs...he now has 4 on the year. We had 12 hits on the night, but also 3 errors. We have to clean up our D. Check that: While TV showed us with 3 errors, the UM game summary page shows only 1 E.

But know this: Tonight's starting lineup was freshmen and sophomores ONLY...NO juniors and the team has NO seniors!

True FR Slade Cecconi got the win in hist first start followed by relievers JR Greg Veliz and JR JUCO transfers Tyler Keysor and Mark Mixon.

Here's your final:

FAU 4
UM 11

Here's your final linescore:

FAU 4 8 1
UM 11 12 1 or 3?*

Unless I misread it, TV showed us with 3 Es while the UM game summary box score shows only 1 so I don't know what to tell U

One good stat:
We struck out only 7x after averaging 10x per game vs Rutgers.

Up next: a 3 game series on the road in Gamesville against the Gates who lost tonight at home to University of North FL 9-1!!!!

That's it for now. Have a great night!

Go Canes!

------------------------------------------------------

Good afternoon/evening, Baseball Caniacs! Happy Hump Day to U.

Your 3-0 Miami Hurricanes baseball team hosts the 3-0 FAU Owls tonight at The Light. First pitch is shortly after 6 o'clock. Both teams are 3-0 coming off sweeps last weekend at home. UM beat Rutgers 19-3, 7-1 and 9-3 while FAU swept Cincinnati 9-0, 8-7 (11), and 5-3.

UM vs FAU in 2018
FAU swept us last year. We lost 5-4 at FAU and at The Light 11-9 and 7-4. As I mentioned in a Tuesday thread, the Canes were 3-8 in midweek games that effectively kept them from going to the playoffs.

Mid-Week Games
BTW, a little twist to this year's schedule: Instead of playing all the midweek games one at a time Coach G scheduled some back-to-back midweek games. Maybe his thinking is it's better to play 2x in between weekend games vs just one to help avoid another 3-8 slide. We finished 3rd in the Coastal last year with a record of 16-13 (same as FSU in Atlantic and they made post-season).

Here are those games:

Jackson State: Tues/Wed March 12/13
Columbia: Tues/Wed March 19/20
FGCU: Tues/Wed April 9/10

If U want to check out the entire schedule that includes weekend home ACC series with GT, NCST, FSU, VT and Duke, Go Here.

Tonight's Starter
True FR Slade Cecconi, a 6-4, 212lb RHP from Trinity Prep in Oviedo north of Orlando will start for Miami. He pitched briefly last weekend vs Rutgers.

On the mound for FAU will counter with another true FR, Hunter Cooley, a 6-3, 200 lb from Vero Beach HS. He is 1-0 after pitching 1.1 innings of relief in their Sunday win over Cincy.

FYI: Miami's roster of 31 players includes 4 JUCO transfers plus a recruiting class of 9 that was ranked eighth by D1Baseball and No. 10 nationwide by Baseball America. They join 18 returning lettermen from last year.

I'll be back for the first pitch around 6:05 pm Thanks for being a part of tonight's thread.
